21 | Method of manufacturing a swash plate assembly | US24219 | 1979-03-26 | US4270255A | 1981-06-02 | Edmund J. Klimek |
An improved method of manufacturing a swash plate assembly for use in a compressor, fluid motor or similar device in which a plurality of pistons are connected, by means of connecting rods, to a swash plate which drives (or is driven by) the pistons. A plurality of piston assemblies are made by casting the piston body around one end of a connecting rod section which is formed with a ball, thus providing a ball-socket connection therebetween. Other connecting rod sections are cast-in-place and captured in sockets within the wobble plate. With the connecting rod being made in two pieces, the section connected to each of the pistons and the section connected to the swash plate are positioned in a fixed relation to one another in an appropriate fixture. The two sections of each connecting rod are then secured to each other, such as by welding, brazing or crimping, to complete the assembly.

A locking pulley assembly includes a pulley adapted to be affixed to a surface, a pull handle, a swivel hook, and a cord extending between the swivel hook and the handle around the pulley wheel. The pulley includes a unitary pulley wheel having locking grooves and coaxial frustoconical bearing surfaces, the pulley wheel being mounted for rotation in a unitary frame having inwardly facing frustoconical bearing surfaces engaging the bearing surfaces of the pulley wheel to form a rotatable joint. The handle is comprised of a cylindrical member having a central axial hole with reduced diameter at its central portion for holding a knotted end of the cord. The handle also has a slot at each end thereof of width slightly less than the diameter of the cord, to enable the handle to hold the cord. The swivel hook has a first element adapted to be affixed to the other end of the cord, and a hook pivotally mounted on the first member. In the formation of the pulley, the frame and pulley wheel are sequentially cast, with the bearing surfaces of the first cast member forming the bearing surface part of the die for the casting of the second element. The frame is cast with bowed sides, and these bowed sides are straightened by compression to free the rotating joint.

A cast hinged article and the method and apparatus for simultaneously casting both parts of the article. A first part of the article is formed with inner projections, and a second part of the article is formed thereover to enclose the projections to provide a hinged pivot. A staking unit which includes a punch then distorts the material in the first part adjacent the projections so that the pivot will be freely movable.

A method for manufacturing a ball joint in which a ball (8) acting as the centre of swivelling of a link mechanism and a holder embracing the ball are swivellingly or rotatably connected to each other, the method comprising a first step of casting molten aluminum alloy into a casting mold in which a ball (8) is inserted as a core so as to cast therefrom a holder (2) covering the ball (8) with a portion to which a shank (1b) is joined uncovered, a second step of heating the holder (2) to melt the aluminum alloy forming the holder (2), a third step of press contacting the shank (1b) against the ball (8) exposed from the holder (2), bringing electrodes (10a, 10b) into abutment with the shank (1b) and the holder (2), respectively, and causing a welding current to flow between the electrodes so as to projection weld the ball (8) and the shank (1b), thereby forming a shank with a ball, and a fourth step of applying an external force to the holder (2) or the shank with a ball so as to form a gap between the ball (8) and the holder (2). |
