A printer apparatus for a document handling machine is adapted to obtain a signal from a series of information-bearing marks on a first document and transmit that signal to the control device for the printer apparatus to initiate the printing of an image such as a bar code on a second document which is to be furnished in a mailing envelope along with the first document. The printer apparatus automatically removes the second document from a hopper, advances the second document to a printing station, lowers a print head module to the printing station over the second document, prints a specified but variable bar code on the second document, and delivers the imprinted second document to the transport raceway of a document insertion machine. |

PURPOSE: To remotely control a document inserter used to insert a document into a mailing envelope by providing a means for controlling the inserter in response to a reception of a control signal by only a receiver while there are predetermined number of displays on a display screen, and setting the predetermined number to less than number of all display screens.
CONSTITUTION: The inserter 10 has a central control display 34 to control and alter a state by a finger touch switch. And, a system has a hand-held type remote transmitter 30 for communicating with a control structure of the display 34. The transmitter 30 has a signal transmitter 50 for transmitting a radio oscillation modulated by an encoder 51. The system has a touch display screen 61 and a microcomputer 60 connected to an inserter 62. If a valid control signal is received from a signal receiver during generating of a main screen, an audible signal is radiated, and a desired function is executed. Accordingly, only a predetermined function of the limited number is controlled during a display of the main screen.

PURPOSE: To deliver an envelope to be mailed in which one or a plurality of inserts directly carried from an electronic printer are inserted by an 'on-line' system wherein an electronically printed sheet, a bill or an advertisement is taken up and folded and then, inserted into another printed sheet folded so as to form an envelope.
CONSTITUTION: A sheet from a printer (which is not shown in a figure) is pushed into a nip between a driving roll 120 and an idle roll 124 to form the first folded part on the sheet and then, it is pushed into the second folding room 140. It is pushed into a nip between a driving roll 126 and the idle roll 124 to perform the second folding of the sheet. During it, a sheet on which an address information is printed is delivered into a folding device and it is coated with an adhesive before it is pushed into a nip between the rolls 120 and 122 and it is delivered by means or the driving roll 120 to perform the first folding. During this work, clutch-hooked rolls 161 and 162 are actuated and the preinserted twice-folded sheet is forwarded and it is inserted into the first folded part of the starched sheet. When the twice-folded sheet is inserted into the sheet on which an address is printed, the second folding is performed and is sealed.

PURPOSE:To detect wrong sorting, jamming or the like in an automatic sorter for sorting articles such as letters, by using a position detection signal from a position detector mounted upstream to a branched portion, and a direction converter control signal from a conveyance section controller. CONSTITUTION:A position detections signal 101 is generated by a position detector 21, which detects the position of a conveyed article and is mounted upstream to a branched portion (i) for performing automatic sorting from a conveyance passage 10. The signal 101 is delayed by a prescribed time by a circuit 50 to generate a position detection delay signal 103. A direction converter control signal 102 is generated by a conveyance section controller 40 and delayed by a prescribed time by a circuit 60 to generate a direction converter control delay signal 104. When abnormal conveyance is detected by using the delay signals 103, 104 and a position detection signal 105 from a position detector 22 mounted upstream to a branched portion (i+1), an abnormal conveyance detection signal 106 is sent out from a circuit 70. |

Systems and methods that allow for orienting and delivering mail between a postage verifier 100 and a mail sorter 500. A postage verifier includes an optical character reader 100 for decoding addresses on mail pieces 30 that do not have bar codes. A reverter 410 orients mail from the postage verifier 100 into a position required for processing by the mail sorter 500. A combination of mail carrying modules carry the mail from the reverter 410 to the mail sorter. The mail sorter 500 prints bar code information on mail lacking bar codes 296, when the data available, and sorts the mail based on the bar code information 292. |

A multi-resolution label locator system divides an input image into a plurality of multi-pixel cells. The multi-resolution label locator system then crates a decimated image or low resolution image corresponding to the input image. The decimated image includes a common-characteristic value that corresponds to a multi-pixel cell of the input image. The multi-resolution label locator system identifies one or more areas within the decimated image that have characteristics corresponding to the characteristics of interest. While generating the decimated image, the multi-resolution label locator system simultaneously creates an edge-occurrence image that corresponds to the input image. The edge-occurrence image includes an edge value that corresponds to each cell of the input image. Each edge value represents the number of occurrences of an edge within the pixels of a corresponding cell of the input image. The multi-resolution label locator system identifies one or more candidate areas within the input image that have decimated-image characteristics and edge-occurrence image characteristics corresponding to the characteristics of interest. The multi-resolution label locator system then classifies the candidate areas according to the likelihood of the input image containing indicia having the characteristics of interest. Lastly, the multi-resolution label locator system compiles a list of one or more candidate areas that most likely contain indicia having the characteristics of interest. |

The invention relates to a method for the creation and distribution of flat mailings for circular posting, whereby document files (5), with corresponding recipient details, are electronically transmitted to service centres (30), by means of "Hybrid Mail" technology, whereupon the mailings for the recipients are automatically generated. In the regional service centres (30) for recipients, the transmitted document files (5) are sorted according to the recipient and the mailings are generated in order of recipient, whereby the sequence of the distribution sequence is matched to the individual distributor. |

An installation for separating and singulating non-uniform postal articles of the small parcel or packet type is characterized in that it comprises a platform for storing a pile of loosely placed postal articles, a vision system adapted to form digital images of the pile of loose postal articles, which pile is static on the platform, and a pneumatic pickup head of a robotized arm. The vision system comprises at least one laser source that projects a beam of fanned-out laser lines onto the pile of articles, thereby making it possible, on the basis of images including the laser lines on the pile of articles, to compute accurately a map of depths, and to perform digital silhouetting so as to singulate an article from the pile of loose articles. |

The present invention discloses a mail detection device and method. The device comprises a broad-band terahertz generator, a collimator, a beam splitter, a fixed reflector, a movable reflector, a wave buncher, a matrix detector, an acquisition card and an information processing module; wherein the information processing module is used for generating a terahertz image of a mail to be detected according to the electric signals sent by the acquisition card when the movable reflector is motionless; and when finding suspicious articles according to the terahertz image of a mail to be detected, the information processing module controls the movable reflector to move, and generates spectral information of the suspicious articles according to an electric signal sequence sent by the acquisition card during the movement of the movable reflector. |
