PURPOSE: To provide a method and a device for carefully and closely monitoring the action of a driver, while keeping safety for the driver concerning the method and device for effectively and realistically simulating the movement of the driver. CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with a pedestal 12 and a means 80b movably fitted onto the pedestal so as to hold the feet of the driver, and the foot holding means 80b can move corresponding to the motion of feet of the driver. A resistive force generator 88 is installed and corresponding to a condition signal, resistive force is applied against the action of the foot-holding means. A display means for displaying the scenery (scene) that can be watched by the driver, corresponding to a display signal can be made into screen surrounding the driver or headgear means 140 to be worn, so as to cover the eyes of the driver. In order to change the resistive force to be applied to the foot-holding means corresponding to the displayed scene, a control unit supplies the condition signal to the resistive force generator 88. When the scene shows the topography of an up slope, for example, high resistive force is applied to the foot-holding means 80b, and the motion of the foot-holding means 80b is made much more difficult and simulated.

An exercise device, such as an exercise bicycle, is connected to a speed sensor indicating activity level, e.g. speed of the bicycle. The activity level signal, along with a heart rate signal, are provided to a video game, such as a Pac-man type video game. The game monitors the heart rate of the exerciser. If the heart rate falls outside preset minimum or maximum limits (steps 60, 62), a certain action occurs in the game, such as an increase in speed or skill level of the opposition (steps 64, 66). In the Pac-man type game for example, should the heart rate fall below the desired workout rate, the villain (the goblin) would move at a speed faster than the players' speed, putting the player at a disadvantage. The player would respond by increasing his level of physical activity, thereby increasing the heart rate until it exceeds the minimum aerobic level required, at which time the villain's speed would return to its normal level.

The data card includes a base having a transparent plate and a photo intercepting film formed on the plate for intercepting light except for a plurality of portions. A plurality of removable light stopping films each formed at least on one surface of the base at a position corresponding to the plurality of portions for stopping the passage of light through the portions. Individual data is stored by removing the light stopping film on a portion corresponding to the individual data.
234 Method and apparatus for measuring instantaneous power JP26280889 1989-10-07 JPH03123569A 1991-05-27 ITO MASAO
PURPOSE: To accurately evaluate instantaneous power without errors due to variations in pedaling a bicycle ergometer by calculating the elapsed time, difference in ergometer speed, and average ergometer speed between increasing and leveling point of revolutions so as to determine power to an inertia mechanism. CONSTITUTION: Pulses indicative of the revolutions of a load unit 2 are supplied to a pulse counter 5 through an amplifier 4. The pulse counter counts pulses at sampling intervals, and supplies a microcomputer 6 with digital data corre sponding to the rotational speed of a pedal 1a. The microcomputer 6, which controls brake torque, receives key inputs from switches 7a and determines the difference dN in revolutions for each sampling interval dt based on these inputs. Then, the microcomputer determines the applied load by using a dummy load J' and 2π/60.dN/dt, and supplies a display 7a with the results of measure ment about instantaneous power. PURPOSE: To execute many kinds of exercises by providing two arms of which one end is connected so as to be rotated, means for adjusting the length of arms, and hydraulic resistance means for generating fixed resistance corresponding to the relative turning movement of arms. CONSTITUTION: Concerning arms 22 and 24, one end is mutually connected so as to be rotated, and adjustable actuators 26 and 28 are mounted on the other ends. Besides, the length of respective arms is adjusted about from 30cm to 90cm at stretching sections from 22-1 to 22-4 and from 24-1 to 24-4. Further, at a hydraulic resistance means 34 mechanically mounted on two arms, the fixed constant is generated corresponding to the relative turning movement of two arms in spite of a change in the driving speed of arms. A flow blocking means 98 and a resistance adjusting means 104 for the hydraulic resistance means are provided to be biased by a soring 100 to move so as to reduce the resistance if hydraulic liquid stream with the high-speed flow of liquid. As a result, many kinds of exercises can be executed. COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO

PURPOSE:To obtain a constant torque without any complicated control by using an iron steel material which contains carbon and silicon contents in the prescribed values or lower for a material of an outer rotor. CONSTITUTION:A load device of an ergometer has an outer rotor 5, an inner stator 7, a plurality of exciting coils 8 provided in the inner stator, and a current source for energizing the coils 8. The rotor 5 is formed of an iron steel material which contains 0.12% or lower of carbon content and 0.35% or lower of silicon content. Further, a current command signal is generated in response to the output of instructing means in a circuit 9, and a current supplied to the exciting coils is controlled in response to the output of the current command signal. Thus, excellent constant torque property can be obtained.

In the first place, inputted from a key switch portion (29) is a personal identification code for a person to use the exerciser. In response to this, personal data corresponding to the identification code are read from the storage means, to be set as the user's data. Thereafter the user performs exercise by driving a load unit (8), whereby data on the user's pulse are successively supplied from a pule sensor (22) to a microcomputer (24). The microcomputer (24) controls the load level of the load unit (8) on the basis of the user's personal data as set in the aforementioned manner and changes in the pulse rate data during the exercise, thereby to adjust conditions of the exercise that can be performed by the user in accordance with the situation and desired conditions of the user's exercise.
