2 Racquets US939481 1978-09-05 US4330132A 1982-05-18 Harry Ferrari
A racquet in which the area of the string which manifests relatively true rebound of the ball, the so-called "sweet spot", is maximized. To achieve this condition the strings are so tensioned or so structured that the deflection produced by impact of the ball near the outer periphery of the racquet is substantially equal to the deflection near the center of the racquet. The strings may be subjected to lower tension near the outer periphery than near the center of the racquet or they may be of smaller thickness near the outer periphery than near the center or they may be differently irradiated. So as to achieve the different tensions with strings of a given diameter a plurality of separate short string lengths sections may be used or one or two long strings may be used and differently tensioned for each length. So that they maintain the set tension. Where long strings are used, the string sections of different tension are wedged in certain of the holes in the racquet frame, through which the string sections or string lengths are threaded or otherwise fastened.

A first method includes the steps of providing at least two string filaments, bringing the string filaments together into a parallel configuration and combining portions of the string filaments. An alternative production method includes the steps of providing a string and slitting portions of the string so as to produce at least two parallel filaments of the string, only portions of which are interconnected.
4 Racket for ball games and string portion or string therefor US16530 1993-02-11 US5346212A 1994-09-13 Siegfried Kuebler
In an racket for ball games, in particular a tennis racket, having a stringing surface which is provided in a stringing frame and comprising mutually crossing strings as sections of at least one longer string portion the strings in one direction have different cross-sections from the middle region of the stringing surface to the shortest string in that direction. The strings themselves have cross-sections which, from the corresponding central axis of the stringing surface, increase or decrease in a plurality of steps to the shortest string in this direction.

The present invention relates to a string for a ball racquet, the string having at least two filaments which run parallel to each other, wherein the filaments are connected to each other only in some sections. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for producing a string of this type. A first method has the steps of providing at least two string filaments, bringing together the string filaments to form a configuration running in parallel and connecting the string filaments in some sections. An alternative production method has the steps of providing a string and slitting the string in some sections in order to produce at least two string filaments which run parallel to each other and are connected to each other only in some sections.

10 LACROSSE HEAD AND LACROSSE POCKET INCORPORATED THEREIN US14245546 2014-04-04 US20140302951A1 2014-10-09 David Philip White; Kevin John Youngs
Embodiments of a stringing arrangement that renders a pocket that combines features of both traditional-style and mesh-style. These embodiments offer a hybrid design that improves the “feel” and “hold” of a ball over current mesh-style pockets with a smoother release of the ball over traditional-style pockets. In one embodiment, the combination utilizes mesh material at the top of the pocket and traditional-style stringing at the bottom of the pocket. Unlike conventional technology, however, the embodiments combine the mesh-style and the traditional-style without disrupting the transition of the ball from the pocket.
11 Lacrosse stick string configuration US09241869 1999-02-02 US06213901B1 2001-04-10 William Collinson
A lacrosse stick string configuration, wherein a plurality of spaced, longitudinally extending thongs are connected to the top of the head of a lacrosse stick and to the base of the head. A plurality of longitudinally extending twisted cords are positioned in the spaces between the thongs, parallel thereto, and connected at opposite ends to the top of the head and the base of the head. Portions of the twisted cords extend transversely of the head to interconnect the longitudinal thongs and for maintaining the thongs in spaced relationship. The construction and arrangement of the thongs and twisted cords provide a relatively closed mesh pocket having rectangular openings for enhancing the control of the ball during catching, carrying, and throwing.
12 Racquet with string positioning elements US369491 1982-04-19 US4458898A 1984-07-10 Robert O. Boden
A racquet having two sets of strings crossing one another and preferably interwoven, and having at least one string positioning element engaging and extending along a string of one of the sets and contacting a plurality of strings of the second set in a relation preventing lateral deflection thereof at the points at which the strings cross one another, while permitting deflection of the strings of the second set at locations between those cross points. This enables the application of spin forces to a ball by such deflection while at the same time minimizing wear by virtue of retention of the strings against relative motion at the crossing points. The positioning elements are preferably tubular and desirably disposed about the transverse strings of a racquet, and may contain notches for receiving successive longitudinal strings in locating relation.
