8 Finger feeling numerical buttons for commercial electronic remote control US11201833 2005-08-10 US07248202B2 2007-07-24 Ching Shih Teng; Nai-You Teng
The present invention offers a finger feeling numerical buttons for commercial electronic remote control. The altitude of the five even number buttons 0,2,4,6 and 8 is higher than the altitude of the other buttons 1,3,7,9, * and #. On the upper, lower, right and left side of the central button 5, provides a feeling mark, so that as the user touch the central button and the higher buttons with his thumb, the position of every button can be identified. Remote control can be carried out without watching at the button. This is suitable for various remote controls such as a TV set, cellular phone and remote control of a car.
9 Vertically expandable keyboard US10331868 2002-12-30 US06752551B1 2004-06-22 William Ernest Hagerman
A vertically expandable keyboard includes keys arranged in a plurality of rows. The keyboard has a retracted configuration wherein the rows are generally coplanar with each other and an extended configuration wherein at least some of the rows of keys in the home position are extended from the retracted configuration such that the rows are not coplanar with other rows. In the extended configuration, the rows can be sequentially tiered such that each row is higher than the preceding row moving from the front row to the back row. The keyboard includes lifters for lifting the rows of keys to the extended configuration. The keyboard can be part of an electronic device such as a portable computer.

Methods of providing input feedback in a device having a keyboard with a matrix of independent keys having associated switches arranged in rows and columns, wherein combinations of diagonally adjacent keys are associated with combination key outputs, and devices performing such methods. One method includes scanning for activated keys, providing provisional output to a user indicating that the activated key has been registered; continuing to scan the matrix; and, in response to activation of an adjacent key prior to release of the first activated key, providing final output to the user indicating that a combination of the first and adjacent keys has been registered, to the exclusion of the provisional output. Another features driving the rows in adjacent pairs while examining the columns for switch activation; and, in response to detecting switch activation in two adjacent columns while driving the rows in adjacent pairs, determining a combination key output.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quick individual key operation and a combination key operation with high reliability. SOLUTION: An inputting method in a device having a keyboard with independent keys having switches arranged in rows and columns, performs input feedback, wherein combinations of diagonally adjacent keys are associated with combination key outputs, including the steps of: scanning for activated keys; providing a provisional output to a user and indicating that the activated key has been registered; continuing to scan the matrix; and, in response to activation of an adjacent key prior to release of the first activated key, providing final output to the user, indicating that a combination of the first and adjacent keys has been registered, and excluding the provisional output. Another method features driving the rows in adjacent pairs while examining the columns for switch activation; and, in response to detecting switch activation in two adjacent columns while driving the rows in adjacent pairs, determining a combination key output. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user with a click feeling in operating a key while miniaturizing and thinning a keyboard. SOLUTION: This key switch includes a key top 1, a link assembly 2 lowered by the push-down of the key top 1, a recognizing the key operation, and pushing upward the key top, an FPC 4 recognizing the key operation, and a plate 5 provided with a support body 5S as a projecting elastic body 2A being movable to the frame and applying an elastic force to an elastic member of a first link 21 on the FPC 4. The link assembly 2 comprises a first link 21 and a second link 22 having legs respectively and is provided with an elastic body applying upward force to the link assembly 2 by the elastic force from the support body 5S. The links are provided with projections or holes in the intermediate parts of the legs respectively, crossed with each other by the connection between the projections and the holes, and journaled thereto so as to open/close the legs. When a pressure is applied to the key top 1, the elastic force of the support body 5S is suddenly enlarged and then the click feeling is provided. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To speedily input characters and codes in a blind state by providing a holder which is disposed on the back of a housing and a thumb is abutted to at the time of grasping the housing by a single hand and disposing plural push button switches at positions which can be depressed by plural fingers except the thumb for a switch unit. SOLUTION: The switch unit 2 is attached to the housing 1 consisting of an upper case 11 and a lower case 12 and forming an opening part 13 in the center of the upper case 11, and mounts the plural push button switches 6 at a position confronting the opening part 13. Then the holder 5 is disposed on the back of the housing 1 to be abutted to by the thumb at the time of grasping the housing 1 by the single hand. For the switch unit 2, the plural push button switches 6 are disposed at a position which can be depressed by the plural fingers except for the thumb. Thereby a keyboard is held by the single palm and its thumb at the time of operation to attain input by a completely single hand. In addition it is possible to blind input by supporting the height and the shape of key tops.

PURPOSE:To provide a hard key-type key top plate which easily matches with an external case even if the surface of the external case is formed so as to curve in two different directions. CONSTITUTION:A film plate 11 made of a resin film is provided. Seven and three key tops are installed respectively in two directions G, H at right angles mutually in a face of the film plate 11. Among the three key tops 13 in the direction H of the key top plate 10, height L1 of the key top 13 in the center from the film plate 11 is made to be higher than the height L2 of the key tops 13 in both sides. It is sufficient to curve the key top plate 10 toward only one direction G even if the surface shape of the external case is curved toward two directions G, H at right angles. Regarding the remaining direction H, to match respective key tops 13 with the curved shape of the key top plate, it is sufficient to alter the height L1, L2 of respective key tops 13.

Input feedback is provided in a device having a keyboard (252) with a matrix of independent keys (254) having associated switches arranged in rows and columns, wherein combinations of diagonally adjacent keys are associated with combination key (256) outputs. One method includes scanning for activated keys, providing provisional output (111) to user indicating that the activated key has been registered; continuing to scan the matrix (114); and, in response to activation of an adjacent key prior to release of the first activated key, providing final output (124) to the user indicating that a combination of the first and adjacent keys has been registered, to the exclusion of the provisional output. Another method features driving the rows in adjacent pairs while examining the columns for switch activation; and, in response to detecting switch activation in two adjacent columns while driving the rows in adjacent pairs, determining a combination key output.
