61 Small keyboard for electronic equipment JP26341091 1991-10-11 JPH05144346A 1993-06-11 KAARU RUUTOBUIHI KIRIAN
PURPOSE: To improve a small keyboard so as to be capable of correctly pushing a desirable key by a finger of an operator even if the distance of a key line is narrow, prevent pushing error of the operation key arranged in the vicinity, or especially prevent the synchronous contact of a plurality of contacts connected to the operation key. CONSTITUTION: An operation key 1 which is not pushed of outside key lines 2, 3, 4 has smaller projection height 11 than an operation key 1 which is not pushed of other key lines 2, 3, 4. A key switch adapted to raise or lower a key top according to need is disclosed. The key switch includes a key top, a link assembly comprised of two link members and operatively connected to the key top, which is retracted by a pressure on the key top and extended by release of the pressure and which has an elastic member at its lower end, an FPC placed on a frame of a keyboard to recognize pressing of the key top, and a plate movably placed on the FPC, to which a lower end of one of the link members is connected, and which has an elastic supporting member being in contact with the elastic member of the link assembly. When the key top is pressed down, the link assembly is retracted while compressing the elastic member of the link assembly and the elastic supporting member of the plate. When the link assembly is further lowered, an elastic resistance of the elastic supporting member is suddenly increased, and thus the elastic member of the first link member is suddenly bent and quickly lowered, thereby affording a click sense to a user and enabling the bent portion of the elastic member to press the FPC.

Input feedback is provided in a device having a keyboard (252) with a matrix of independent keys (254) having associated switches arranged in rows and columns, wherein combinations of diagonally adjacent keys are associated with combination key (256) outputs. One method includes scanning for activated keys, providing provisional output (111) to user indicating that the activated key has been registered; continuing to scan the matrix (114); and, in response to activation of an adjacent key prior to release of the first activated key, providing final output (124) to the user indicating that a combination of the first and adjacent keys has been registered, to the exclusion of the provisional output. Another method features driving the rows in adjacent pairs while examining the columns for switch activation; and, in response to detecting switch activation in two adjacent columns while driving the rows in adjacent pairs, determining a combination key output.

The present inventions relates to a method for increasing the speed of response and the accuracy of output in an IACK keypad system, the method comprising:

  • scanning a matrix to determine if any keys have been activated;
  • upon detecting activation of a key, identifying a provisional independent key output;
  • continuing to scan for key activation; and,
  • upon detecting activation of a diagonally adjacent key prior to determining that all switches have cleared, determining an intended combination key, overriding the provisional output and outputting the intended combination key.

A key fob (10) for signaling a receiver on a vehicle includes a housing (12) and a transmitter (14) capable of transmitting multiple signals. The signals actuate multiple vehicle devices on the vehicle. Switches to control the signals include at least one dome (16) protruding through the housing for initiating transmission of a signal. The dome includes a first element (20) depressable for initiating a first signal and a second element (22) depressable independently of the first element for initiating a second signal different from the first signal. The first element (20) protrudes from the housing to a different height than the second element (22). Thus, the elements can be easily actuated separately from each other.

PURPOSE: A key switch is provided to ascend a key top as much as a stroke of a key top when uses the keyboard, and to make a thickness of a notebook computer or a PDA(Personal Digital Assistant) thin by being descended as much as the stroke of the key top when the keyboard is not used. CONSTITUTION: The key switch comprises the key top(1), a link, a plate(5), an FPC(Flexible Printed Circuit)(4) and a frame(3). The key top(1) is placed on a surface of the keyboard and performs an up/down movement by receiving a pressure of a finger and returning to an original state due to the pressure of the link. The link guides the up/down movement of the key top(1), is compressed by receiving the pressure of the key top(1) and offers click touch by a rapid bending phenomenon of a leaf spring(2A). The plate(5) is slid on a left/right direction and lowers the entire keyboard by lowering a height of the link when folding the keyboard or closing a cover of the computer.

A device (100, 2604) includes a controllable skin texture surface (2602), a sensor (2700), and control logic (200). The sensor senses a plurality of points of interest (2804, 2806) of a user surface (2800). The control logic controls a plurality of portions (2900) of the controllable skin texture surface to protrude at locations with respect to the plurality of points of interest in response to the sensor sensing the plurality of points of interest. In one example, the control logic periodically adjusts the plurality of portions protruding from the controllable skin texture surface in response to movement between the user surface and the controllable skin texture surface.
