In a keyswitch structure, a number of recesses are formed in a lower case, and a projection with a flat top surface is formed inside each of the recesses. The recesses communicate with each other by means of grooves formed on the lower case, and fixed contacts are provided on the projections. A pattern is formed on the under surface of a flexible substrate put on the lower case so that movable contacts, included in the pattern, face the fixed contacts. An elastic sheet with a number of buttons is put on the flexible substrate, and the flexible substrate and the elastic sheet are fixedly held between an upper case and the lower case. When any of the buttons of the elastic sheet is pushed, the elastic sheet and the flexible substrate are elastically deformed to bring the movable contacts into contact with the fixed contacts. |

A keyboard has a planar surface with depressions formed therein. Switch devices of the type which provide tactile feedback are aligned with the depressions. Exertion of downward force on the base of the depressions will cause switch contacts to be closed with a snap-action to generate an information bearing signal. |

An electrical touch switch having a printed circuit baseboard with two circuit patterns electrically isolated and spaced a predetermined distance from one another has a contactor having a resiliently flexible substrate with a plurality of small contactor dots positioned randomly with respect to the circuit patterns, each contactor dot is sufficiently large to span across the spacing between the circuit patterns and depression of any one of these dots against the circuit patterns will provide continuity between the circuit patterns; the contactor substrate also has embedded structural fibers which span across the contactor dots. |

A push-button switch having a plurality of depressable push buttons includes a resilient metal plate provided beneath each push button which is bent in a snapping manner thereby depressing a movable contact provided on a first printed circuit sheet toward a contact assembly provided on a second printed circuit sheet. Upon closure of the movable contact and the contact assembly, another movable contact provided on the rear side of the second printed circuit sheet is depressed toward another contact assembly provided on a printed circuit base board thereby closing the contact assembly. |

1430399 Retractive switches BOWMAR INSTRUMENT CORP 20 Dec 1973 [2 Jan 1973] 59172/73 Heading H1N A keyboard switch assembly comprises pushbuttons 22 each of which actuates a resilient, conductive switch device 14 from a rest position to a deflected position in which it interconnects co-planar conductors such as 30-3, 32, Fig. 5, carried by, for example by being printed on, an insulating board 12, at least one other conductor being provided on the board spaced from and co-planar with the first-mentioned conductors and extending under the switch device but having no electrical connection therewith in either of its positions. As shown, the switch device is a snap-acting dome of, for example, square, triangular or circular shape and formed with dimples or projections 64, 66 on its periphery and at the centre thereof respectively, which form contact portions for engaging the conductors. The switching devices are located in apertures 74 in an insulating sheet 16 superimposed on the board 12 and over which is laid a flexible insulating cover sheet 18. The assembly is completed by a cover member 20 which is apertured at 76 for retention and location of the push-buttons. The latter have X-shaped projections 78 which act through the sheet 18 on the switching devices. The conductors and parts thereof which are not engaged by a particular switching device may be covered with an insulating layer (56), Fig. 7 (not shown), and the contact portions of the conductors may be plated with gold on nickel. Fig. 11 shows a modification in which an insulating sheet 82 extends between the sheet 16 and board 12 and has apertures such as 86, 88 which expose the contact portions of the conductors for engagement by the dimples 641, 66 of the switching device 141. |

PURPOSE: To lessen the number of component items so as to simplify assembling by moving the curved face of one part of a dome portion downward so as to e inserted, and bringing two circuit patterns into contact with each other so as to form an electric circuit when operation force is applied to the dome portion.
CONSTITUTION: As seeing a key display provided on a cover sheet 130, a user places a finger on a predetermined key station, pushes down a key, brings circuit patterns 114, 124 into contact with each other so as to form a circuit to generate an electric signal from a keyboard. When operation force is applied to a specific key through the cover sheet 130, the operation force is transferred to a dome portion 126 via a dome-like actuator 128, the dome portion 126 is moved downward so that the circuit pattern 124 is brought into contact with the circuit pattern 114 to form an electric circuit. In this downward movement, a curved face is inverted at one part of the dome 126 as shown in a dotted line so that a snap action is caused, and such pleasant feedback as the establishment of the electric contact of the patterns 114, 124 is felt.

A tactile snap-action element for use in keyboards, the element comprising an arcuately shaped invertible dome defining a first contour and a dome actuating protrusion defining a second contour, the protrusion being integral with the dome and being non-invertible. The element is operated by an actuation force which acts directly or indirectly through the non-inverting protrusion to invert the first contour and to provide tactile feedback. The keyboard includes a plurality of keys, each key comprising an element, a conductive circuit associated with the first contour and moveable with the inversion of the first contour to electrically contact a second conductive circuit associated with the element. |
