The sewing machine head has a feed and reverse mechanism, and a command unit or nominal stitch count system for the feed/reverse drive, and a unit to establish the position of the sewing machine head. A reverse stitch control compares the position detector output signal with the number of stituches provided by the stitch adjustment, as a nominal value, to provide an appropriate command to the feed/reverse drive, if the position detection signal matches the number of stitches shown.

A sewing machine for attaching tapes (12) to a web (24) includes a web feed station (22), a sewing station (26) and a transfer mechanism (45) to transfer the web from the sewing station to a collection zone (47). The sewing station includes a sewing head that moves across the web to sew the tape. The tape (12) has hooks (14) periodically spaced along the tape and movement of the sewing head is initiated by sensing one of the hooks (14) at a predetermined locator. Successive tapes may then be sewn with the hooks aligned.
63 SEWING MACHINE AND CONTROL METHOD OF SEWING MACHINE EP16190924.7 2016-09-27 EP3165661B1 2018-05-16 KURATA, Hyobu
When a power source switch of a sewing machine (1) is turned on, a CPU (41) of the sewing machine displays a home screen on a display (11). When the CPU receives an operation of a setting key (10A), the CPU shifts to an adjustment mode. The CPU saves a movement trajectory and a feed pitch set by a user in a temporary storage area of a RAM (43). The CPU sets the movement trajectory to a standard trajectory, and sets the feed pitch to a standard pitch. When the user manually rotates a pulley, a feed base (33) moves at the standard pitch along the standard trajectory. In the adjustment mode, the CPU disables an operation of a pedal (22) and does not drive a main motor. When the CPU receives an operation of a return key or a home key, the CPU shifts to a normal mode.

A sewing machine is provided, which has lower feed teeth which feed a sewing object by a lower feed drive mechanism having a lower drive shaft 92 as a drive source and upper feed teeth which are driven by an upper feed shaft that is coupled to and driven by the lower feed drive mechanism. The sewing machine is provided with an upper feed lower shaft 1 which is supported rotatably on a machine main body and is coupled to the lower feed drive mechanism, an upper feed coupling section which transmits movement of the upper feed lower shaft to the upper feed shaft, and a transmission control section which controls halting and restarting of transmission of movement of the upper feed lower shaft. The upper feed coupling section is held at a movement transmission halt position by operation of the transmission control section.

A method and apparatus for electronically gearing the sewing parts of a sewing machine is disclosed. More particularly, it relates to electronically gearing a bobbin (22) to a needle (12) through mechanical linkages and drive shafts. Servo motors (28, 30) provide torque to the needle, bobbin, and various other sewing parts of the sewing machine which reuqire concerted movement. A computer (202) uses servo motor positional information to calculate motion commands that are sent to the needle and bobbin servo motors, thereby enabling electronic gearing of the bobbin to the needle so that each moves substantially in unison. Motion commands sent to servo motors attached to various other sewing parts of the sewing machine are based on servo motor positional information to enable the sewing parts to move in concert with the needle and bobbin. Servo motors move the fabric in two dimensions during stitching, and each move of the fabric is calculated to consume the maximum amount of time available between stitches in order to dampen acceleration and deceleration of sewing parts and eliminate problems associated with machine jerk.

There is provided needle drop control means which, when a sewing machine stop signal is generated, sets a needle 9 stop position on the more right side than a cloth cutting knife 16 with respect to an operator. The needle drop control means, when the formation of buttonhole darning stitches is completed, sets the needle 9 stop position on the more right side than a cloth cutting knife 16 with respect to the operator. The needle drop control means includes electrical drive means for moving a needle 9 to a given position existing in the right and left direction, and a control circuit for giving a drive instruction to the electrical drive means to stop the needle 9 at the given position, that is, the given needle stop position.

A method and apparatus for stitching a label to material, particularly to a quilted mattress panel, in which the material and the label are joined face side down rather than face side up. The label is held face side down with a clamp and a panel is held over the label by a clamp, and the two are joined by a sewing machine. The invention further includes a mechanism for activating the thread knife of the sewing machine at such a time that the bobbin thread only is cut. In a further aspect of the invention, a masking mechanism is provided for masking the electronic signals of the sewing machine that would otherwise cause the machine to reset at a normal needle height, so that a sewing operation can be stopped with a needle at a maximum clearance position. In a further aspect, pneumatic cylinders and linkage are provided for raising the needle and presser foot even further at the end of a stitching operation.

74 Camming device EP86304145.5 1986-05-30 EP0207632A1 1987-01-07 Kennedy, Andrew

Acamming device to provide a cycle of axial and rotational movements between two arms (11,33) in which the forward and return axial movements occur at different relative angular positions of the arms comprises a member (22) mounted on one of the arms and extending generally axially and tangentially beside the other of the arms, one of said member and the other of said arms being formed with a cam (23) having two oppositely directed faces (24,25) for engaging the the other said member and said other of said arms to rotate it about an axis in either direction until stopped, said cam then slipping out of engagement so that relative rotation between the arms can occur. To cause relative axial movement in one direction, a second cam (15) is fomred on one arm for engagement with the other arm, causing said relative axial movement in one direction on relative rotation of the arms in one direction. Relative axial movement in the other direction is prevented until relative rotation of arms in the other direction has occurred a predetermined distance past the relative angular position at which said relative axial movement in said one direction.

This cycle of movements may be used in connection with a button transfer device in a sewing machine, by way of example only.

76 A DRIVING CONTROL DEVICE EP82901173.3 1982-04-05 EP0077788B1 1985-07-31 SJÖDIN, Gunnar Olof Mauritz
A driving control device, adapted on an electronic sewing machine with a computer (10) and a needle stop automatic system, is provided with electric drive- and control circuits which by generation of short pulses from the motor regulator (16) move the needle intermittently into the upper and lower end positions, respectively. The pulses for this type of driving the machine may last for at most the time of half a machine cycle. A longer activation of the regulator effects a continuous running of the machine.

This invention relates to a method and apparatus for electronically gearing the sewing parts of a sewing machine, and more particularly it relates to electronically gearing the bobbin to the needle to eliminate the necessity of their physical coupling through mechanical linkages and drive shafts.
