PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide button hole sewing machine which can carry a fabric to be sewn both in the longitudinal direction and in the lateral direction. SOLUTION: This button hole sewing machine has a housing forming the frame and an arm 3, a table 6 to be driven in two directions (x and y) perpendicular to each other and to support a fabric 7 to be sewn, a fabric clamp 10 fixed on the table 6 and a needle bar 4 with a needle 5 at the bottom end pivotally supported by the arm 3 to be driven to go up/down. The fabric clamp 10 is fixed on a bearing block 15 connected to the table 6 and has two pressing plates 14 and 14a to support the fabric 7 to be sewn. The fixing positions of the arms 11 and 11a to the bearing block 15 are adjacent to each other, and the arms 11, 11a are bent so that their fixing positions are off on the same side with respect to the longitudinal axis of the arm 3. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure good press fitting by an upper and lower guides of a presser foot which cooperate to fit a piece of cloth being cut between a cutter for cutting the ends of cloth and a needle drop position, regardless of the type of cloth to be worked, and prevent the occurrence of inferior sewing due to inappropriate fitting. SOLUTION: A presser foot 2 is configured such that pieces of cloth KL and KR are fed, with their ends butted, into a guide path 21 between a pair of presser legs 22 and 23 extending in front of a needle drop position C, and their upper edges are cut to an even length by upper and lower cutters 24 and 25. An air connected tube 41 is connected to the top of the presser leg 23. Air is blown toward another presser leg 22 between an upper guide and a lower guide being overlaid by the former at the rear of the upper and lower cutters 24 and 25. The air impinges the cloth KR on the same side as the presser leg 22. This ensures that the cloth KR overlays another cloth KL.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve usability of a handy sewing machine by installing an operation lever to push up a cloth press lever. SOLUTION: When a press operation part 22 of an operation lever 20 is pushed down by a hand, a front edge of a push-up face 21 is rotated counterclockwise around a rear edge 21 of the push-up face 21 as the fulcrum to push up a cloth press lever 10 against the spring elasticity of a torsion spring 19. Since the cloth press lever 10 is pivotally fixed to the base end part 4a of a sewing table 4 by a shaft 18, a press part 12 of the cloth press lever 10 leaves to upper side of a sewing position (S). After setting the sewn matter to the sewing position (S) on the sewing table 4 by another hand, when press by the operation lever 20 is released, the cloth press lever is rotated back by the spring resilience of the torsion spring 19 to press the sewn matter on the sewing position (S) with the press part 12.

PURPOSE:To reduce power consumption and to hold an invariably constant coercive force enough to press cloth, by lowering a voltage applied to an electromagnet to a prescribed value through a voltage comparing circuit, and thus controlling an adequate mechanism in a sewing machine. CONSTITUTION:An electromagnet 7 is arranged relating to a cloth retaining lever which moves up and down a cloth retainer, and this electromagnet is energized to hold the cloth retainer at an elevated position against a downward working force and is powered down to hold the cloth retainer at a lowered position. The electromagnet 7 is fed with a large current from a power transistor TR6, which is supplied with a current under the control of a driving TRTR1. In the initial short time when a switch P1 is turned on, the TRTR1 is operated by a timer 3 to supply the large current from the TR6 to the electromagnet 7. Then, a voltage comparing circuit 9 compares the output current value of the electromagnet 7 with a prescribed small current value to control the TRTR1, thus supplying a small current to the electromagnet 7 successively.
