PURPOSE:To obtain a fine pearlite-base spherical graphite cast iron having high toughness and high strength by cooling quickly a casting having a spheroidal graphite cast iron compsn. from the temp. of the A1 transformation region or above to a humidity range where extremely fine pearlite is generated and allowing further the casting to cool or cooling quickly the casting. CONSTITUTION:A molten metal having a spheroidal graphite cast iron compsn. is poured into a casting mold and a solidified casting is again superheated to the uniform austenitization temp. below the A1 transformation region and is cooled quickly to produce a spheroidal graphite cast iron. The casting in this case is quickly cooled from the temp. above the A1 transformation region down to the prescribed temp. at which extremely fine and dense pearlite is produced, i.e., the prescribed temp. in the temp. range where the pearlite transformation arises at the temp. corresponding to the pearlite nose in the isothermal transformation curve or below, for example, 500 deg.C. The casting is held for prescribed time at said temp. or is cooled gently from said temp. and is then allowed to cool or quickly cooled upon lapse of prescribed time. As a result the intended spheroidal graphite cast iron is obtd. by adjusting the cooling temp. after pouring without adding any specific element. |
