376. Axten, C. J. Jan. 6. Knives, cleaning and polishing. - In apparatus in which the blade of the knife is held stationary and is polished on both sides by guided reciprocating rubbers, the rubbers are guided in a box having ends d which limit their movement, and local pressure is applied in proximity to the knife blade by a ball-bearing f, or a cross-bar, or a cylindrical or conical roller. The rubber, which is guided by the side walls of the box and runs on antifriction rollers e, comprises a pair of pads which may either be mounted on undulating surfaces b or padded out by springs to form undulating surfaces. The knife blade is inserted through a slot in the side of the box, and the rubbers are reciprocated by a handle c.
165 A New or Improved Knife Cleaning Machine. GB191322014D 1913-09-30 GB191322014A 1914-06-18 BRAMPTON WALTER
22,014. Brampton, W. Sept. 30. Knives, cleaning.-Knife - cleaning machines, of the kind in which the knives are secured in position with their blades projecting between reciprocating roller slides moved on rails through the medium of handles, are constructed with removable bearing-frames for the reciprocating pads or slides, and with special means for securing the knives in position. Fig. 3 shows the removable bearing-frames, and Fig. 4 the securing-means for the knives. The removable bearing-frames d slide into the casing through a door at one end and are guided between the side walls and a central projection f. They are hinged together at one end and are formed with one half of a ball race c. The reciprocating pad-carriers b carry the other portions of the ball-races and are operated by handles i projecting through elongated slots in the outer casing. Suitable projections on the members d prevent the balls from passing beyond the ends of the members b. The end of the casing opposite to the door is formed in two parts, one comprising a slotted sliding part a<2> which is adjusted by screws m to clamp the handles of the knives against the other fixed part a<1>.

27,052. Glashier, C. Nov. 24. Knives, cleaning and polishing.-In knifecleaners, of the kind in which the blade of the knife is supported on a rest and is rubbed transversely by a hand rubber, guides are provided to ensure that the rubber moves at rightangles to the length of the blade. Fig. 1 shows one construction by way of example. The knife blade is supported on a rest 2 carried by the board 1, which is fitted with a depending ledge 8 and a clnmp 9 for securing it on a table. The guides consist of rollers 5 mounted on blocks 4 so as to leave a small clearance space between their inner surfaces and the rubber 6. The rubber may have three faces covered with varying grades of emery cloth or composition and the fourth face covered with a leather strip.

25,143. Wilkinson, E. Nov. 11. Knives, cleaning and polishing.-A block or rubber d with a curved under-surface covered with polishing-material c is used in conjunction with an ordinary knifeboard. The block is attached by eyes to L-shaped hooks g which prevent it from moving longitudinally and also serve as supports when the board is hung up. One turn-button k prevents lateral movement of the block on the board, while a second one prevents lateral movement of the board on the table or support. The knife blade is inserted in the angular space between the surfaces of the board and block and is rubbed to and fro with one hand while pressure is applied to the handle h with the other hand.
