1806. Schauman, B. M., Luxenburg, J., Schlegel, B. Jan. 24. Knives and forks, cleaning and polishing.- Comprises a construction of apparatus for polishing both knives and forks, of the type in which the cleaning &c. surfaces are provided with detachable pads or rubbers. Figs. 1 and 4 show the apparatus having a pivoted upper member b adapted to be pressed by hand against a lower member a while the knife or fork is rubbed between them. The lower member is provided with flat and curved polishing-pads c, f respectively, and is pan-shaped at one end to hold a supply of polishing-powder h. The upper member is box-shaped at one end to hold a block i of scouring or polishing material, and has curved and flat pads d, g, respectively, a portion of the latter being divided longitudinally into strips. The knives are reciprocated between the surfaces d, e so that they rub against the block i. The forks are dipped into the material h and rubbed between the surfaces f, g. The tines are cleaned by passing the prongs of the fork between the strips of the surface g. In a modified form, shown in Fig. 4, the block i is replaced by a box of polishing-powder, which is perforated at j<3> to deliver the powder to the pads when the spring-controlled slide is pressed inwards by the pin k<3>. |

The handle of a knife is made up of assembly elements. Two of the lateral elements are the sides. On the external face (8) of one of these sides, the side piece (4), there is a decoration in the form of a cross. That side contains a recessed opening (18) whose opening to an internal face (14) is greater than that to the external face of the side piece. The decoration forming an insert (10,12) is of the same shape as the recess (16,22). The insert can be embedded in the side piece from the internal face. It is showed on the external face, and is held fast after the assembly of the handle. |
