A method of manufacturing a plurality of glass frits is provided which comprises categorizing the glass frits 5 into contamination. groups selected. fronu 1 lithium. free glass frits; 2 bismuth free glass frits; 3 bismuth containing glass frits; and 4 lead containing glass frits, wherein category 1 glass frits have been found to be least contamination—problematic through to category 4 glass frits 10 which have been found to be most contamination—problematic. The glass frits are then ordered into a manufacturing schedule based on the contamination group categorization with any glass frits in category 1 being manufactured first followed by glass frits in categories 2, 3 and 4 15 respectively. Cleaning of the kiln used to manufacture the glass frits is performed. if the next glass frit to be manufactured in the kiln is not in the same contamination group as the preceding glass frit manufactured in the kiln. The method also comprises selection of a particular type of 20 refractory material for lining the kiln and a particular method of lining the kiln which reduces contamination of the glass frits by the refractory lining.
