It is necessary in medical engineering, the foodstuffs industry and also in other sectors to treat, for example to sterilise, products in a number of steps. This is normally carried out by treatment of the products (6) in batches by means of process media in a treatment unit taking the form of an autoclave. The invention provides for a sequence of individual treatment units (1,1a,1b) which are preferably moved in steps and are provided with the process medium (2,3) which is necessary in each case in a position-dependent manner. |

In a method and an apparatus for heating large amounts of uniform milk samples (11) to about 40 DEG preparatory to laboratory analyses, the samples are currently introduced into a carrousel-like machine. The machine has two axially offset levels (II and III), one (III) of which being a transport level and the other (II) a heating chamber (7) in which the samples are heated by means of high frequency energy, preferably in the form of microwaves. The samples are introduced mechanically into the heating chamber and maintained there during heating with current measurement of their temperature. When the temperature measurement shows that the samples have reached a desired temperature, they are released and fall back to the transport level and are transported out of the machine. |

A vertical cylindrical vessel has a concentric cell wheel with a series of vertical partitions. These extend radially to the inner wall of the vessel, so that the wheel is divided into a number of cells, and the plant serves for the continuous boiling or similar treatment of objects contg. solid matter, and esp. foodstuffs. An inlet zone and an extracting zone corresp. to the cell divisions are provided. The bottom of the cell wheel is a performed plate, grid or net of wire. In the bottom of the vessel in a boiling zone, means of heating are provided, and there is also a heating zone and a cooling zone. In the bottom of the vessel apart from the boiling zone, radial partitions are also provided corresp. to the divisions of the wheel. Pumping systems for the circulation of the fluid in countercurrent through the heating and cooling zones are also provided, and there is a mechanism for rotating the cell in steps through an angle corresponding to the size of the cells. Used to make the operation of boiling foodstuffs fully automatic in a plant in which the heat given off in the cooling zone is recirculated and which occupies the minimal space. |

In an apparatus for the cooling of softly packaged food-stuffs, such as pouches with foods, said pouches are immersed inside a tank (52) into a cooling liquid with a density that is lower than that of the pouches. A floor is arranged inside the tank above the tank bottom so as to support the pouches, which floor comprises a grid (14). At least one jet (15) is arranged between the tank floor and the grid, said jet being adapted to eject liquid in a generally upward direction, and said jet during the ejection being moved so as to vary the flow pattern inside the tank. The motion of the jet provides an exceptionally good cooling effect, which is believed to be attributable to a combination of advantageous circumstances, viz. that no pouch is constantly stationary and that the pouches do not cover the surfaces of other pouches. The motion of the jets can be provided by a mechanically relatively simple arrangement, in which the jets are mounted on arms (16), which arms are rotated around a vertical axis (17). |
