102 ANILLO DE ENCUADERNACION. MX9801501 1998-02-24 MX9801501A 1998-11-29 WHALEY PAUL

An apparatus and technique for strengthening and reinforcing book bindings. A laminate having a polyester face sheet is coated on one side with adhesive. A backing sheet is releasably secured to the adhesive. The backing sheet is split down the center thereof to define a removable center strip with adjacent side strips on each side thereof. These three strips facilitate the method of application of the laminate to reinforce and secure a book binding.

114 Machine for repairing faultily bound books - has heater to reactivate adhesive with covers pressed hydraulically against page block CH1279275 1975-10-02 CH593149A5 1977-11-30
The machine for repairing faultily bound books e.g. catalogues and magazines is mounted on a table placed alongside the conveyor belt carrying the books from the binding machine. A faulty book is placed against a fixed stop with its back pressed against the heated base plate. The slider is then pushed against the lower edge of the cover by a pneumatic jack mounted under the table and actuated by the pedal. The heat from the base plate reactivates the adhesive so that after an interval of three to six seconds the pedal is pressed again to release the repaired book.

945,011. Bookbinding. R. T. PRICE. June 21, 1961 [Feb. 28, 1961], No. 7354/61. Heading B6A. [Also in Division F2] Wire staples F (see Division F2), with two J- shaped limbs joined by a straight portion F2, are used to bind loose leaves into book form, to bind periodicals, to replace a damaged cover of an old book or to fix a stiff cover to a paper back book. As shown a paper back book A with covers removed is placed between two stiff covers boards B each with a linen reinforcing strip C at one edge and one with a larger, outer strip D provided on the face of the cover board opposite to that bearing the reinforcing strip. The book, with the strips C stuck over the corners of the back edge and the strip D folded back over its cover B, is then placed on a base board, Fig. 1 (not shown), with a raised strip for supporting the back edge, and transverse holes are drilled through that edge. The limbs of the staples are then passed through the holes and twisted to form curls F3 on one strip C while the portions F2 lie along the back of the book. The outer strip D is then stuck over the back and staples. The old cover may be applied to the outside.
