PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure the polishing of the upper/lower edges of a book without any problem, even when the book is the one whose cover polishing is not desired or polishing is impossible because the cover stands in the way, and the simplification of a drive mechanism. SOLUTION: This book edge polishing machine is equipped with a book clamping mechanism 8 which reciprocates on a polishing drum with a clamped book 7. The framework 9 of the book clamping mechanism 8 is of a frame shape using a forward end plate 10, a rear end plate 11, a guide side plate 12 and a side plate 13. On this framework 9, a pair of inside movable clamps 14 and 16 and a pair of outside movable clamps 15 and 17 are installed in such a state that the guide side plate 12 penetrates the base end side. Both movable clamps 14 and 15 on the forward end plate 10 side and both movable clamps 16 and 17 on the rear end plate 11 side are connected by clamping cylinders 20 and 23, so that the clamps 14 and 15, 16 and 17 are actuated simultaneously. In addition, between the inside movable clamps 14 and 16 and the side plate 13, gaps G1 and G2 for the cover are provided. Further, the tip sides of the outside movable clamps 15 and 17 are opened. Thus a hard cover 7a can be drawn to the outside when the book 7 is clamped. COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure the polishing of the top and tail edges of books without any problem, even regarding the books of such kind that the polishing of their covers is not desired or is impossible because the covers are in the way. SOLUTION: A book clamping mechanism 8 which reciprocates on a polishing drum with a clamped book 7 is provided and the frame 9 of the book clamping mechanism 8 is of a planar square shape and constituted of a forward end plate 10, a rear end plate 11 and side plates 12 and 13 on both sides. A clamping plate 14 is arranged in the frame 9 and driven by a clamp cylinder 15. In addition, a gap G1 for the cover from which two lapped pieces of a hard cover 7a are drawn, is formed between one end part of the clamping plate 14 and the side plate 13. Thus it is possible to polish only the book body by clamping it when the book 7 is clamped between the clamping plate 14 and the forward end pate 10. COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
184 Method for polishing book end and device using this method JP2000243559 2000-08-11 JP2002052859A 2002-02-19 NIIMURA TOSHIYUKI
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To polish the end of a book without any difficulties even when the end is not even. SOLUTION: A base frame 8 structured of a front end plate 9 a rear end plate 10 and a side plate is provided on a book clamping mechanism 7. In addition, a clamping plate 19 to be driven by a clamping cylinder 23 is mounted between the front end plate 9 and the rear end plate 10. The lower end side of the book 6 is clamped between the clamping plate 19 and the front end plate 9. Further, a fluid pressure cylinder 20 on the fixed side is mounted on the front end plate 9 and a fluid pressure cylinder 21 on the movable side is mounted on the clamping plate 19. The upper end side of the book 6 is clamped by keep plates 22 on the upper ends of both fluid pressure cylinders 20 and 21. When the book 6 is clamped, first it is supported from both sides by a weak force and under this book supporting state, a pressurizing force 29 is applied to the book 6 from above and at the same time, both fluid pressure cylinders 20 and 21 are contracted lengthwise as specified. Thus both ends of the book 6 are completely even and thereafter the book 6 is clamped by a strong force and under this state, the polishing of the ends of the book 6 is achieved.
