9 Synchronized traveling carriage assembly US874385 1978-02-02 US4201423A 1980-05-06 Magnus F. Hagen; Donald Stanley
A synchronized traveling carriage assembly comprising at least one slide mechanism held by a end-support cap having alignment pins to firmly hold it in a rigid position. The outer side of the support cap includes support pins so as to be readily acceptable in a cooperating installation. A carriage plate is affixed to the moving slide member whereby various devices may be mounted thereto. The slide comprises an outer slide member which is removably connected to the alignment pin of the support cap, an inner slide member, and a ball-retainer member disposed therebetween having at least two flat strips of friction material coacting with at least one intermediate member formed by an endless belt of friction material--the flat strips being affixed to respective inner and outer slide members and the endless belt being movably mounted to the ball-retainer member for engagement with the flat strips.
10 Photocomposition escapement drive system US586922 1975-06-16 US4008480A 1977-02-15 Francis S. Szabo
The use of a stepper motor of large steps, with a pulley type mechanical motion reducer system using a flexible cable for dividing a step of the motor into a divided output motion, and an alternative embodiment wherein a second stepper motor in the form of a two-step solenoid further alters the output by changing the position of the flexible cable anchor. The combination is illustrated in an environment of a lens in a photocomposer wherein a carriage carries a decollimating focusing lens and mirror as an escapement composition device shifted in accordance with the dictates of a program operating under specific algorithms.
11 Electronic pattern generator US912398 1978-06-05 US4257042A 1981-03-17 Eckhard Lindemann; Jorg Broning; Dietrich Asbach
In an electronic pattern generator characters to be recorded are displayed on the screen of a cathode ray tube and then exposed on a recording medium mounted on a carrier, which is displacable in a plane parallel to the plane of the screen. The characters are displayed from video-data recallable from a store. The recalled video-data are transformed into a first video signal for the brightness control of the electron beam of the cathode ray tube into first deflection signals for the beam and into displacement signals for the carrier. For controlling the make-up and composing process the characters are displayed identically on a further screen of a soft copy terminal independently of the display on the screen of the cathode ray tube.By identical display it is understood, that the various type fonts and sizes of characters are not displayed in an unitary fashion, but in the original font of writing, as they will appear later in the typographical composition on the recording medium.By identical display it is further understood, that also the appropriate displacement motions of the carrier are taken into account when displaying the soft copy for control purpose. The identical display is achieved by storing the first video signal and transforming it into a second video signal for the soft copy terminal with the help of different read-in and read-out signals for the storage means and different second deflection signals for the screen of the soft copy terminal.

The invention concerns a register stamping system for printing plates comprising several stamping modules for inner drum printing plate exposure systems. The printing plate is mounted inside a trough in the form of a circular segment and the stamping modules (1, 2, 3, 4 and 6) are arranged next to one another on a support plate (5) at one end of and outside the trough in which the printing plate is mounted. The stamping modules each comprise a guide block (2) mounted on the support plate, a stamping punch (1) guided within the guide block (2), a connecting rod (3) with which the die can be actuated and a stripper plate (4) mounted on the support plate (3) at the end of the support plate facing the trough and through which the stamping punch is guided; the stamping punch (1) at the end which engages through the stripper plate is provided with a tab which grips over the end of the printing plate; the stamping punch (1) can be actuated by the connecting rod (3), withdrawal of the stamping punch at the end of the printing plate resulting in a stamping action, and the material stamped out of the printing plate is removed by the tab and the stripper plate.
