1. An apparatus for imaging electrophoretic particle suspensions including a first electrode adapted to support an image formed from the suspension, at least another electrode adapted to contact the suspension such that it is between said electrodes, means for causing relative movement at a predetermined velocity between the first electrode and said other electrodes, means to expose the suspension between the electrodes to an image with activating electromagnetic raidation, and means to apply a discontinuous electric field across the suspension between the electrodes, said discontinuity being such as to provide a field between said electrodes when at least one of said other electrodes contacts the suspension.
2. An apparatus for imaging photoelectrophoretic particle suspensions including a first electrode adapted to support an image formed from the suspension, at least another electrode adapted to contact the suspension such that it is between said electrodes, means to apply a constant electric field across the suspension between said first and said other electrodes, means for causing relative movement at a predetermined velocity between the other electrodes and the first electrode, and a time variable potential source capable of exerting a time varying field across the imaging suspension, said source being operatively connected between said first electrode and at least one of said other electrodes and means to expose the suspension to an image with activating electromagnetic radiation.
3. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein said time variable potential source includes means operable thereon to activate said source when the suspension is being acted upon by the constant electric field and the electromagnetic radiation.
4. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein said time varying field has a frequency in Hertz at least equal to the product of the resolution of the imaging system in line-pairs per millimeter multiplied by the relative velocity between the electrodes in millimeters per second.
5. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein said time varying field has a frequency in Hertz slightly less than the product of the resolution of the imaging system in line-pairs per millimeter multiplied by the relative velocity between the electrodes in millimeters per second.
6. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein said time variable potential source is operatively connected to at least one of the other electrodes.
7. The apparatus of claim 2 including a third electrode positioned to contact said first electrode at a time after contact of said first electrode by second electrode wherein said time varying potential source is operatively connected to said third electrode and said third electrode has further associated therewith a constant electrical field sufficient in combination with said time variable potential to maintain the image formed between said first and second electrodes.
