CONSTITUTION: Raw water 5 is pumped up by a lifting pump 6 and is sprayed from a water spray section 7. From the upper part of a trickling filter section 4, it falls into the filter beds and falls in the form of films on the filter medium surfaces, thus arriving at a water level 2. In this process, 70W80% BOD in the raw water is removed. The outflow water from the section 4 flows in downward flow into an immersion filter section 3 where filter media are immersed below the water level 2. Microorganisms are stuck on the filter medium surfaces in the section 3 like with the filter media in the section 4, so that the residual BOD in the outflow water of the trickling filter beds is removed virtually completely. The biologically treated water 10 from the section 13 is released as it is or after it goes through a solid-liquid separating section.
