A fixed quantity of mercury, rare gases for starting and halides, such as, NaI, TlI, InI, etc. are enclosed in the luminous tube bulb 1 while metal tholium is enclosed. Consequently, metal tholium prevents the transmission of sodium through the quartz glass during lighting, and obviates the formation of free halogen in the bulb 1, and the rise of lamp voltage is checked, thus lengthening the life of this lamp.
