CONSTITUTION: A special forged Al-Si alloy is used for a rotary drum and parallel and roughly continuous machined lines having 1W6μm surface roughness are formed along the advancing direction of a magnetic tape to a passage for guiding said tape. The compsn. of said alloy consists of 8W15wt% Si, 0.5W 4wt% Cu, 0.05W1.0wt% Mg and the balance Al. The alloy is quickly cooled and solidified from a molten metal to crystallize finely an Si crystal. The cooling is accomplished at ≥(30W60°C/sec) cooling rate. The casting ingot is subjected to warm forging at 200°CW the m.p. or below and ≥30% reduction ratio and is again molded in the above-mentioned temp. range to part mechanically the Si crystal to ≤5μm average grain size and to disperse uniformly said crystal. Such molded alloy is subjected to a heat treatment and is finished to a drum by machining. The machined lines mentioned above are formed to said drum. The coefft. of slip friction is thus made ≤0.28 in the load range of a 10W100g tape.
