CONSTITUTION: A battery 9 for a pulse generator PG and a counter circuit 4 is coupled with a controller power source 8 through a reverse current preventive diode 10 and the PG and circuit 9 are normally powered by the controller power source 8, but powered by the battery 9 in case of a power failure. Other circuits are not in operation during the power failure, but the PG and circuit 4 are still in operation, so the current counted value is held even during the power failure. Further, the circuit 4 indicates the correct counted value even if an articulation shaft rotates in the power failure. A resolver RE indicates the current absolute value if the power source recovers and indicates the current angle of rotation after the power failure even if the articulation shaft rotates during the power failure, so the need for origin adjustment is eliminated and the operation efficiency of the robot is improved.
