CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of sodium silicate is added to an aqueous solution of glucomannan or its partial decomposition product to obtain a composite similar to a plate KONJAK in texture. The composite is treated with an acid optionally after being perforated at a density of ≥3 perforations per 1cm
2 , and washed with water to obtain the objective composite.
USE: Useful also as a substrate to hold microbial cells in fermentation industry.
