As the pretreatment thereof, high-temp. steam is firstly introduced through a feed pipe 2 to hydrolyze it and activated metal is easily deposited on the catalyst. Then an activated metallic compd. such as a liquid-state palladium compd. is blown toward the catalytic layer through the feed pipe 2. In such a way, extremely large regeneration effect is obtained and the catalyst is quickly treated at low cost and prolonged in service life.
