1. A method for removing glaze and other deposits from the rollers of a roller hearth kiln without cooling the kiln, the kiln being of the type which includes power driven rollers for receiving and transporting ceramic tile through the kiln, such method including raising the temperature of said kiln to a temperature which is higher than the temperature used for firinG the glazed ceramic tile to decrease the molten viscosity of the glaze deposits on said rollers and subsequently introducing absorbent refractory material onto said rollers while driving said rollers to pass said refractory material over said rollers through the heated kiln after the viscosity of the glaze deposits is decreased to cause the glaze deposits to transfer from the rollers to said absorbent refractory material.
2. The method of claim 1 which includes using refractory material having a low thermal expansion characteristic.
3. The method of claim 2 which includes using refractory shapes of greater size and weight than the ceramic tile fired in said kiln.
4. The method of claim 2 which includes using refractory shapes having rounded edges.
5. The method of claim 1 which includes using refractory shapes formed to the shape of the ceramic tile fired in said kiln.
6. The method of claim 1 wherein the temperature of said kiln is raised to a point within the range of from 50* to 350*F above the normal operating temperature of said kiln for the firing of glazed ceramic tile.
7. The method of claim 1 which includes using porous refractory material having a low thermal expansion characteristic and a high absorption characteristic formed into discs with rounded edges and of greater size and weight than the ceramic tile normally fired in said kiln, said method also including raising the temperature of said kiln in at least the area containing said glaze deposits to a point within the range of from 50* to 350*F above the normal operating temperature within such area of the kiln during the firing of glazed ceramic tile.
8. The method of claim 7 which includes temporarily restraining the refractory discs against further movement through the kiln once said discs have passed into the entrance section of said kiln, driving the rollers beneath said restrained discs to cause the discs to grind away deposits on the surface of the rollers, and subsequently releasing said discs to permit movement thereof through said kiln.
9. A method for removing glaze and other deposits from the power driven rollers of a roller hearth kiln which occur from the firing of glazed ceramic tile in the kiln without cooling the kiln which includes driving the rollers of the kiln, introducing absorbent cleaning refractory shapes having a low thermal expansion characteristic and a high absorption characteristic onto said rollers to be passed by said driven rollers through the heated kiln causing the glaze deposits on said rollers to transfer to said absorbent cleaning refractory shapes.
10. The method of claim 9 which includes temporarily restraining the refractory shapes within the kiln against movement through the kiln while driving the rollers beneath the restrained refractory shapes to cause the restrained refractory shapes to grind away deposits on the surface of the underlying driven rollers and subsequently releasing the refractory shapes to permit movement thereof through the remainder of the kiln.
11. The method of claim 10 which includes raising the temperature of said kiln above the temperature used for firing the ceramic tile to decrease the viscosity of glaze deposits on said rollers.
12. The method of claim 9 which includes decreasing the viscosity of the glaze deposits on said rollers before passing said porous cleaning refractory shapes over said rollers.
