CONSTITUTION: A sterilized seed taro (a) is embedded in a medium (b) in a box container (c) and is placed in a treatment chamber A. A germination treatment apparatus is actuated to control the temperature of the germination treatment chamber A at the optimum temperature for the germination of taro (25W30°C). The temperature is maintained at the level until the sees taro is germinated and the terminal bud is grown to 5W6cm. Thereafter, the temperature control of the chamber A is changed to a variable temperature mode wherein the temperature is varied between the day and the night. The variable temperature treatment is continued over a prescribed period to acclimate the plant to the temperature environment of the main field until the terminal bud is grown to a length of about 7cm. After the above treatment, the taro is taken out of the chamber A and transplanted on a field in a main house. The raising seedling period of taro can be remarkably shortened by this process from conventional 30W40 days to about 15 days.
