CONSTITUTION: The cordierite carrier is impregnated with a soln. consisting of Pd chloride and urea to carry the soln., dried, and calcined. And a finished catalyst is obtained. The impregnation is carried out at 60°C for 3hr. The soln., for example, contains 3g/l Pd chloride as Pd, 15g/l urea, and is regulated to 2.57pH (25°C) and 1.03sp.gr. The catalyst contains 0.10wt% Pd, and the water absorption ratio is 33.3%. The washcoatless catalyst thus obtained has excellent heat resistance. The purification ratio of CO and HC is not significantly decreased under such conditions, for example, as severe as 950°C for 100hr in the air. The poisoning of the catalyst by sulfur can effectively decreased especially for the use at low temps.
