摘要 The invention relates to a brake block (1) comprising a brake block holder for generating a braking force by frictionally contacting a friction surface (3) of a brake block rubbing surface (2) of the brake block with a running surface of a wheel of a rail vehicle. Said brake block rubbing surface (2) is made of a soft friction material having a hardness of preferably less than 400 N/mm2, more preferably less than 350 N/mm2, in particular less than 220 N/mm2, and/or has an elasticity module of preferably less than 20.000 N/mm2, more preferably less than 5.000 N/mm2, in particular less than 2.500 N/mm2, and particularly preferably, a composite material and/or compound material with an organic binding system, in particular a resin-bonded friction material, is provided as friction material. According to the invention, the brake block rubbing surface (2), on the side of the friction surface (3), has at least one material recess (5), said friction surface (3) being interrupted by the material recess (5) and the proportion of the total recessed surface (A) over the entire surface of the brake block rubbing surface (2) is more than 15 %.
