摘要 | PURPOSE: To produce 1,2-dihydroxy-cyclohexa-3,5-diene in high efficiency, by conversion reaction of an aromatic compound in the presence of a procaryotic cell transformed with a benzene oxygenase gene. CONSTITUTION: A benzene oxygenase gene is introduced into a cell free from benzene oxygenase activity, especially a procaryotic cell such as Escherichia coli, etc. The transformed procaryotic cell is brought into contact with an aromatic compound such as benzene, toluene, biphenyl, naphthalene, etc., in the presence of an energy source substance such as ethanol, acetic acid, glucose, lactic acid, etc., to effect the conversion of the aromatic compound to the objective 1,2-dihydroxy-cyclohexa-3,5-diene.
