A cover (11) for a waterbed mattress includes a top layer (13) suitably sized to cover the waterbed mattress and an inner backing layer (21) of substantially the same overall outline as the top portion disposed so that the top layer (13) lies over the backing layer (21). A bottom (15) is spaced away from the top layer (13) and the inner backing layer (21) so as to provide a cavity (23) for a water mattress, with the bottom (15) disposed below the cavity (23) and the inner backing layer (21) being disposed above the cavity. The top layer (13) is divided into at least three sections, each section extending substantially across the top layer (13). The first section is fixedly secured to the inner backing layer by stitches disposed in a first stitching pattern while the other two sections are fixedly secured to the inner backing layer by stitches disposed in a second stitching pattern. It is preferred that one of the stitching patterns be a continuous wave stitching pattern and that the other be a tack and jump stitching pattern. It is also preferred that the first section be disposed so as to support the lumbar section of a human user reclining thereon. The lumbar support section preferably extends somewhat higher above the mattress than the other two sections. In one embodiment, a variable density pad is disposed below the backing layer, with a more dense section of the pad disposed below the lumbar section of the top. |

A fabric casing for elastic cores is provided, which cores have two opposite faces, such as cushions or pads especially for stuffed furniture and the like. According to the invention the casing comprises two fabric pieces (2, 3) of different character inter se in respect of for instance color and/or pattern, each of said pieces covering one of the core faces, said pieces being joined together all along the circumference of the core (1) in a plane (4) at half-way distance between the core faces, said pieces jointly projecting in said plane laterally outwardly a distance (f) exceeding said half-way distance to thus form a circumferential collar (5) whose peripheral edge (7) is reduced in length for instance by stitching or resiliently reducible in length to thus make said peripheral edge shorter than the core circumference in said plane (4), whereby the collar (5) can be pulled over variably onto one or the other of the core faces so as to cover core side surfaces between said faces, so that always the very same fabric is exposed to view on (i) said side surfaces and (ii) one of said faces. | ||||||
