A fitted mattress cover is provided with a flat top panel and a knitted or woven fabric skirt attached to and depending from the periphery of the top panel. The lower edge of the skirt contains a band of longitudinally extending elastic yarns that were integrally incorporated into the edge during fabrication of the skirt fabric. The yarns of the elastic band provide sufficient tension to pull some of the skirt fabric under the mattress and provide a secure fit when the cover is installed on a mattress. |

A fitted mattress cover has a fabric skirt warp-knit from bulked yarns and elastic yarns. The skirt is elastically stretchable in the longitudinal direction by at least 50%, inelastically stretchable in the transverse direction by at least 60%, and regains its transverse stretch characteristics when laundered and dried in a relaxed condition and possesses important advantages over known stretchable stitchbonded skirts in wash durability, stretch/conformability, and puncture resistance, as well as in economy of manufacture. |

The bed covering anchor system in the preferred configuration has a pair of adjustable length crossing support straps to allow attachment to the area of the corners of a variety of sizes of bed covering placed on bed mattresses. Elastic straps are engaged at the ends of the crossing straps and have a grasping device at one or both ends of each elastic strap to grasp the covering and provide a retracting force to keep the covering taut on the mattress. One or more lateral support straps may also be attached to the cover to keep the longitudinal edges of the covering taut at the points of attachment. |

A pad is arranged on the upper and lower sides of a spring unit to provide a laminate structure. The laminate structure is covered with an outer cover body comprising top and bottom layers covering the corresponding pads and a side layer covering the laminate structure. A joining member of heat-shrinkable synthetic resin has one end width portion joined to the inner surfaces of the whole marginal edge portions of the top and bottom layers. The other end width portion of the joining member covers the corresponding outer marginal edge portions of the pads. The joining member, upon being heat shrunk, have another end width portion brought into firm engagement with the spring unit so that the pads and outer cover body are firmly held relative to the spring unit. |

A shirring blade assembly is added to a quilting machine to enable the fabrication of a shirred topmost quilting layer on an upper sleeping surface of a mattress fabricated by the machine. The various layers to be laminated into the quilted upper sleeping surface include filler and foam layers for resilience. As the various layers are fed through the quilting machine, the shirring blade assemblies reciprocate in and out to gather the material in the desired shirred configuration, and the configuration is fixed by stitching along selectively spaced stitch lines. The resulting product is cut, trimmed and beaded about its periphery, after which it is incorporated in a mattress. |

A mattress having a top surface component and a spring component. The top surface component comprises multiple layers. The first layer is the cover material for enveloping the entire mattress. The second layer is a fiber material covering the entire top surface of the mattress. The third layer is convoluted foam subtending the fiber layer and having a plurality of peaks for supporting the fiber layer in a no load condition. The fourth layer is a backing material for the convoluted foam layer. The peaks of the convoluted foam layer compress either completely or partially when a weight is applied and return to their original no load position when the weight is removed. The compression and return action of the peaks of the convoluted foam layer exercise the fiber layer preventing the matting thereof and cause the movement of air to keep the fiber layer dry. |

A cover in the form of a blanket has a protective grid of phosphorescent material that when exposed to light and placed in a dark environment emits light for a period of time. The protective grid is a pattern of intersecting ribbons of phosphorescent material anchored to and covering substantially one surface of a fabric. The protective grid provides a visual light shield that creates an image of protection and is useable for amusement and entertainment. |

A body support element such as a mattress, box springs or the like that exhibits non-slip qualities as to a further item freely supported thereon. A ticking fabric covers at least an upper surface of the element includes a base fabric having pairs of yarns laid in atop said base fabric and secured thereto, the lay in yarns following non-linear paths. The yarns of each pair preferably follow mirror image paths to the opposite yarn of the pair. Processes for producing the ticking fabric and finishing same are also included. |

A fabric casing for elastic cores is provided, which cores have two opposite faces, such as cushions or pads, especially for stuffed furniture and the like. According to the invention the casing comprises two fabric pieces (2, 3) of different character with respect of for instance color and/or pattern, each of said pieces covering one of the core faces, said pieces being joined together all along the circumference of the core (1) in a plane (4) at half-way distance between the core faces, said pieces jointly projecting in said plane laterally outwardly a distance (f) exceeding said half-way distance to thus form a circumferential collar (5) whose peripheral edge (7) is reduced in length for instance by stitching or is resiliently reducible in length using, for example, an elastic ribbon to thus make said peripheral edge shorter than the core circumference in said plane (4), whereby the collar (5) can be pulled over variably onto one or the other of the core faces so as to cover core side surfaces between said faces, so that always the very same fabric is exposed to view on (i) said side surfaces and (ii) one of said faces. |

A box-spring type seat construction formed of an upper frame, a lower frame and interconnecting coil springs, with a horizontally elongated fabric strip having wire stiffened upper and lower edges secured to the upper and lower frames respectively at the forward edge of the seat construction, with the strip vertically extending between the frames for limiting the expansion of the springs. The strip is formed of fine strands of linearly oriented polypropylene felted into a randomly oriented non-woven, smooth sheet for roughly equal stretch resistance and equal tension absorption in all of its planar directions.
