The machine operates to pick single individual pieces of the particulate matter from the bin. The picked individual pieces are then conveyed for further handling. Pneumatic transport is primarily used for the conveying operation. One aspect of the handling involves individually weighing (28) each piece of the picked particulate matters. Another aspect of the handling involves sorting the individual pieces of particulate matter into a plurality of receptacles (34). Yet another aspect of the handling involves both weighing (28) and then sorting the individual pieces of particulate matter, wherein the sorting operation may be performed based upon the measured weight (26) of each piece.

169 VERFAHREN UND VORRICHTUNG ZUM PNEUMATISCHEN FÖRDERN VON VORZUGSWEISE WÄSCHE EP03742566.7 2003-02-20 EP1476381B1 2006-12-20 HEINZ, Engelbert
On application of pneumatic transporters in laundries, the loading of the pneumatic transporter is in particular problematic when the linen, as is usual, arrives in laundry piles (38). Occasional blockages of linen (28) are then formed which block a suction head (12) of the pneumatic transport and cause an interruption in the transport process. A manual loading of the pneumatic transporter with linen thus normally occurs. The invention is based on the fact that the linen blockages (28) can be broken up and dispersed when, after being sucked up by the suction head (12) and raised, the suction is temporarily interrupted. A subsequent evacuation of the suction head (12) causes the linen blockage (28) to fall back on the linen pile (38), which leads to an automatic dispersion of the linen blockage, whereupon the suction head (12) of the pneumatic transporter can be automatically loaded with linen.

176 Air-filled packing cushion delivery system EP99307952.4 1999-10-08 EP1013573B1 2004-09-22 Brown, Kurt E.
System for delivering air-filled packing cushions (17) to a point of use in which a continuous string of the cushions (17) is fed into an elongated duct (27) with the string extending longitudinally of the duct (27), and an air flow is established in the duct (27) to convey the string of cushions through the duct (27). In one disclosed embodiment, the air flow is created by a blower (34) mounted externally of the duct (27), with a baffle plate inside the duct (27) directing the air flow in a longitudinal direction. In a self-contained system in which the cushions are made at the point of use, the duct (27) extends vertically, and the cushions (17) are fed directly into the lower end of the duct (27) by a machine which makes them. The string of cushions (17) is discharged from the upper end of the duct (27) into a bin (26) from which they can be withdrawn as needed for use in cartons supported by a stand positioned beneath the bin (26).
177 DEVICE TO COUNT AND DISPENSE ARTICLES EP02747076.4 2002-07-19 EP1409381A1 2004-04-21 POLLARD, Jasper; MICHELLI, Richard, D.; PELL, Charles, A.; MOODY, Ryan; WILLIAMS, Jeff
A singulating and counting device (10) includes a bulk housing (11) for storing a plurality of substantially identical articles (A), an exit channel (20), and in the exit channel, forwardly (26a, 26b)- and rewardly (27) directed jet apertures, each of which is fluidly connected to a positive pressure source (28). A forwardly-directed jet generated by the positive pressure source through the forward jet aperture (26a, 26b) can accelerate singulated articles in the exit channel, thereby increasing the interval between individual articles and rendering them more easily and accurately counted. A rearwardly-directed jet generated by the positive pressure source through the rearwardly-directed jet aperture (27) can cause articles in the exit channel to return to the housing. A controller (40) operatively connected with the pressure source(s) selectively controls the application of positive pressure to the aforementioned apertures to induce or halt singulation of the articles; the controller may be operatively associated with a sensor (23) that detects and counts articles passing through the exit channel.
