A method for determining the position of a part of a vehicle involves measuring the distance from a first measuring location (MU1) to a number of pick-up points (A-E) associated with the vehicle part and then measuring the distance from a second measuring (MU2) location to each of the pick-up points (A-E). The position of each of the pick-up points (A-E) is then calculated relative to a fixed location (20) and the position of each of the measuring points relative to the fixed location is compared in order to determine the position of the part. An apparatus (200) for use with such a method has a main body (202) which is attached to part of the vehicle. A rod (208) extends from the main body and is pivotably mounted to pivot about a central point of the main body. The rod has a measuring position (216) marked on it and in use, the measuring position lies vertically below the central point. |

The present invention relates to an aligner for damaged vehicle bodywork and vehicle chassis, which aligner is equipped with folding wheels (19) capable of adjustment between a working position and a transport position. In the working position, the aligner is in contact with a floor or the like, and in the transport position, the aligner adopts a free position relative to the floor. The aligner consists of a lower part (1) executed as a frame and an upper part (2), a so-called slide, supported therein in such a way as to be capable of displacement, which upper part is so arranged as to be caused to move in the longitudinal sense of the lower part by at least one actuating device (12) arranged in the lower part (1). The upper part (2) is executed with a uniform longitudinal cross-sectional profile, which engages in a corresponding uniform longitudinal cross-sectional profile on the lower part (1) and permits the upper part (2) to be caused to move in the lower part (1) with stable support for its entire length. Both the lower part and the upper part are executed in their interacting parts with dovetail-shaped profiles which engage in one another. Both the lower part (1) and the upper part (2) are preferably aluminium components.

The invention relates to a process for repairing vehicle coachwork consisting of nodal components (3, 4) especially in the form of light metal castings and hollow section bearers, especially in the form of light metal extrusions. According to the invention, a damaged or buckled bearer (9) is separated from the nodal component (3, 4) at a distance therefrom and removed, leaving bearer stubs (10, 11). The separating cuts (12, 13) are made in such a way that the free space (14) between the bearer stubs (10, 11) is conically open. Fitted socket sections (15, 16) are inserted into the bearer stubs (10, 11). A replacement bearer (17) is prepared in accordance with the shape of the free space (14) and closely fitted therein so that the socket sections (15, 16) form a circumferential base in the fitting region after the manner of an internal socket. The end of the bearer stubs (10, 11), the appropriate socket section (15, 16) and the end of the replacement bearer (17) are welded together. This provides a repair process especially for aluminium coachwork which enables repairs to be made without extensive operations and without any loss of stability in the coachwork.

Every tire (1) is provided with an identification code (2). During periodical inspection the condition of every tire, including the tire pressure and the position of the wheel is recorded, quantised and stored in a memory (6) with the help of the identification. The whole history of the tires of a fleet of vehicles is being recorded. After each inspection, with the additional help of the history of the tire, an advise is given relating to the further application of the tire so that the life time of the tire is as long as possible. For instance it can be advised to turn the tire or to fix it on another wheel postition. |
