PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a mark easy to check from a sidewise direction of a printing medium. SOLUTION: While reciprocally moving an ink-jet head 3 together with a carriage 2, an ink jet printer ejects a droplet of ink onto recording paper P from the ink jet head 3. The ink-jet printer simultaneously performs: a regular ejecting operation in which while recording paper P is conveyed forward by a conveying roller and an image or the like is printed in a printing area Pb of the recording paper P, and a marking ejecting operation in which a droplet of ink is ejected to an edge Pa of recording paper P, thereby forming a mark Pd at a side edge Pc thereof. A control device for the ink-jet printer controls a head driver and jets a liquid droplet of larger volume from a nozzle 40 by the marking ejecting operation than by the regular ejecting operation. Accordingly, by the marking ejecting operation, a droplet of ink is caused to permeate further recording paper P in the thickness direction than by the regular ejecting operation. PURPOSE:To obtain an easily attached small printing position detecting mechanism, by fixing and arranging an indicator wherein a position where a straight line passing a pair of sight points and a platen are crossed comes to a printing position. CONSTITUTION:An indicator 8 has a bent part 81 and a projection B being a first sight point is projected from the bent part 81 while the indicator 8 is notched in a recessed shape at the leading end thereof and this notch part A is used as a second sight point. In this case, the notch base A0 of the notch part A and the leading end side B0 of the projection B are constituted so as to be made respectively parallel and the position where the straight line passing the base A0 and the leading end side B0 is coincided with a printing position. In determining the position of paper by using this indicator 8, an eye 10 is placed in the rear and the position to be printed by a character of paper subjected to manual positional determination on a platen 1 may be viewed from the eye 10 so as to be superposed to the two sight points A0, B0 of the indicator 8.

PURPOSE:To provide a printer free from misrecognition of a digit position along with ease of checking by moving a scale forming a plurality of scale trains varied in the pitch to expose the desired scale train at an indication window. CONSTITUTION:A scale 11 in which a plurality of scale trains 11a, 11b, 11c... varied in the pitch is formed on respective surfaces of a square column-shaped shaft to indicate a digit position is supported on a body frame with moderation in such a manner as to be free to turn through cylindrical shafts 12 and 13 extending radially in the horizont way. A knob 14 is fixed at the intermediate position of the cylindrical shaft 13 and a part thereof is exposed from an opening 15 of the body case 3. This allows easy exposure of the desired scale train, for example, 11a at an indication window 10 by turning the scale 11.

An ink-jet printer performs the ordinary jetting operation in which the printing is performed on a printing area of the recording paper while transporting the recording paper frontwardly by transport rollers and the marking jetting operation in which a marking is formed at an edge portion of the recording paper. A control unit of the ink-jet printer allows nozzles to jet liquid droplets therefrom in the marking jetting operation, the liquid droplets having larger volumes as compared with those jetted in the ordinary jetting operation. Therefore, in the marking jetting operation, a larger amount of the ink liquid droplets can be permeated in the thickness direction of the recording paper as compared with the ordinary jetting operation. Accordingly, the marking, which can be easily confirmed from the side of the printing medium, is formed.
