3 Ink-jet printer EP09155538.3 2009-03-18 EP2105313A3 2011-03-16 Kawai, Narumi; Morita, Yoshitsugu; Hattori, Shingo; Sughara, Hiroto

An ink-jet printer performs the ordinary jetting operation in which the printing is performed on a printing area of the recording paper while transporting the recording paper frontwardly by transport rollers and the marking jetting operation in which a marking is formed at an edge portion of the recording paper. A control unit of the ink-jet printer allows nozzles to jet liquid droplets therefrom in the marking jetting operation, the liquid droplets having larger volumes as compared with those jetted in the ordinary jetting operation. Therefore, in the marking jetting operation, a larger amount of the ink liquid droplets can be permeated in the thickness direction of the recording paper as compared with the ordinary jetting operation. Accordingly, the marking, which can be easily confirmed from the side of the printing medium, is formed.

A printing device includes a printing apparatus that includes a transport unit including a roller pair that nips and transports a medium, a printing unit that prints on the medium and a first sensor that detects the medium or a mark at a position downstream of the roller pair. The printing device also includes a first motor capable of driving the roller pair to a non-nipping state and to a nipping state, and a controller that controls the transport unit and the first motor so as to perform an assistance operation to assist setting of the medium. The assistance operation performed by the controller. When the first sensor detects the medium or the mark, the controller causes the medium to be nipped by the roller pair, and a skew correction operation in which the medium is transported and reverse transported is performed.

16 Position finding overlay for forms US710329 1991-06-05 US5215396A 1993-06-01 Ray A. Rogers
A transparent plastic overlay includes row and column markings. The overlay is aligned and laid onto a form. The form has areas which are to be filled in by a computer-driven printer. The overlay markings tell a user the row and column coordinates of every character position that can be printed on the form. The overlay markings are sized for the particular type font and spacing used by the printer. Knowing the column and row where a character should be entered, the user can easily move the cursor of the computer screen to the corresponding position using the cursor controls and the row and column data which are displayed on the screen by the computer's word processing program. The user then types on the computer keyboard the data or word characters to be printed on the form. The form is fed through the printer and the characters are printed in the correct positions. The overlay can be made in different sizes to fit the various typeface sizes and line spacings of different printers. The markings may be colored to contrast with the typical black ink of the forms to be printed.
17 Reference area usable with a form for correction of form misalignment in a printer US469222 1990-01-24 US5187774A 1993-02-16 Richard E. Ericson
A reference area usable with a rectangular form when the form is used with a computer controlled printer. The reference area having a pattern and a reference point. The pattern allowing the location of a mark printed by the printer on the pattern to be readily identified on an equivalent reference area displayed on a display monitor for the computer. The reference point is positioned so it will receive a reference mark when printed on the reference area by the printer provided the form is not misaligned in the printer. A reference mark received at the reference area provides information relative to the reference point that is a measure of the amount of vertical and horizontal misalignment of the form in the printer. This information, when placed in the computer, makes it possible for the computer to correct for any misalignment before any printing is done on the form.
18 Method and apparatus for positioning a web in a printer US562539 1975-03-27 US3973664A 1976-08-10 Robert R. Wanat
A clip constructed of resilient material slidably engages the door of a paper web drive tractor of a printer. The clip defines two reference edges which are spaced by an amount substantially equivalent to the distance between a type line reference rod and the print line of a print mechanism. The operator aligns a selected type row on the web with the reference rod and slides one reference edge adjacent a mark on the web. The web is moved until the mark is aligned with the other reference edge of the clip and the selected type row is thereby positioned on the print line.
