13 Process for producing bags with folded over and secured handles by a fold-over rod extending at a right angle to the direction of transport US10584 1998-01-22 US6059709A 2000-05-09 Fritz Achelpohl; Wilfried Lotz
The handles of bags, provided with legs, are cemented to both sides of the opening sides of the bags. The handles are U-shaped handles made of strip-shaped material. Parts of the handles are folded over onto the side walls of the bags and fastened with adhesive spots to the side walls of the bags or to the non-folded over segments of the legs. After the legs have been glued to the continuously conveyed bags, the handle parts are folded over onto the side walls of the bags around prerupture lines of the legs in the direction of transport. The handle parts are folded over by at least one fold-over rod extending at a right angle to the direction of transport.
14 Method for attaching reclosable zipper strip transversely to thermoplastic film material US110663 1998-07-06 US6017412A 2000-01-25 Donald L. Van Erden; Art Malin; Michael J. McMahon; Lawrence Share
A method for attaching reclosable zipper strips transversely to thermoplastic film material which may be used to make reclosable bags or packages in a form-fill-seal machine is claimed. The zipper strip includes a male profile and a female profile. The male profile includes a male interlocking member and an integral web comprising a trailing flange and, optionally, a leading flange. Likewise, the female profile includes a female interlocking member and an integral web comprising a trailing flange and, optionally, a leading flange. As the film material is advanced into the form-fill-seal machine in bag length increments, the interlocked zipper strip is disposed on the film material transversely thereto with the trailing flange oriented in a direction opposite to the motion of the film material. The zipper strip is then sealed to the film material at its extremities. In this manner the male and female profiles are sealed to each other and to the film material. The sealing may be continuous or may take the form of spot seals.
15 Method and apparatus for opening a zipper after it has been spot sealed US916119 1997-08-22 US5873969A 1999-02-23 David Keith; Thomas P. O'Connor
A method and apparatus for manufacturing recloseable plastic bags with engageable mating profiles where the bags are provided open for the consumer. The profiles are initially provided in the fully engaged condition within an elongate, longitudinally cut tube. The profiles are then periodically fused, tacked, or attached together at the approximate locations where the tube is to be cut into bags. Upon tacking, the profiles are pulled apart by frictionally engaging an area on the outside of the film, near the profiles, and between the tacks. The film is then forced away from the profiles, which at least partially pulls one profile from the other. Thereafter, the tube may be cut and sealed into bags as would otherwise normally occur.
16 Machine for attaching handles to a gift box US738249 1996-10-28 US5858166A 1999-01-12 Donald R. James; Bill Anderson

In one embodiment, the machine comprises a base member and first and second side walls extending upward therefrom. The machine further comprises first and second handle support members rotatably connected with the first and second side walls and each being adapted to retain the first and second handles, respectively. The first and second handle support members are operable from a first and normally horizontal position wherein the handles may be inserted thereon and provided with an adhesive to a second substantially vertical position wherein the handles may be attached to the gift box.
17 Seal roll index US810874 1997-03-05 US5785794A 1998-07-28 Lee B. Fiedler
An apparatus for indexing a seal roll which is engagable by a heat seal head to prevent the contact area of said heat seal head from successive landing at the same location on the seal roll includes a driven pulley mounted coaxially with the seal roll and components for indexing to turn the driven pulley. The components include a rocker mounted on a common axis with a drive pulley via a one-way clutch and an actuator connected eccentrically to the rocker such that reciprocating motion of the actuator rotates the rocker in opposite directions. In one direction, the rocker rotates the drive pulley via the one-way clutch to index the roll via the drive belt and driven pulley. In an opposite direction, the clutch permits rotation of the rocker in the opposite direction free of rotation of the drive pulley. A brake member is connected to the rocker eccentrically of the common axis, the brake member clamping the drive belt against a stop member for seizing rotation of the roll during the heat seal procedure.
18 Bag-making apparatus having automated positioning of attachments US770758 1996-12-19 US5733236A 1998-03-31 Eric De Smedt
A bag-making apparatus is configured for automatic positioning of a plurality of attachments of the apparatus which are in operative association with a web of bag-making material. The adjustment apparatus is configured to effect conjoint translational movement of the plurality of attachments along an attachment bed of the apparatus thus providing highly accurate and automated positioning of the attachments attendant to changes in print repeat length of the web. In the illustrated embodiment, the adjustment mechanism includes a pivotably mounted lever arm which extends generally along the length of the attachment bed, with a system of gear racks operatively interconnected with the lever arm for effecting conjoint translational movement of the attachments. Automatic controls of the arrangement effect automated adjustment during dwell or stop periods of bag making, and also facilitate reconfiguration of the apparatus for making bags of differing print repeat lengths.
19 Desk-top envelope maker US479525 1995-06-07 US5638666A 1997-06-17 Gil Davidov
The invention is directed to an apparatus and method for making an envelope from ordinary size, readily available, writing paper. Preferably, the apparatus is a compact desk-top size machine that can be combined with any common office printer, such as a laser printer, or even be incorporated thereinto to form a single machine. The apparatus enables the provision of a system for integrating and simplifying office computerized printing of letters and addressing of envelopes, by using a single paper tray whereby, for example, following the printing of a letter on one or more sheets of paper, the subsequently fed final sheet of paper from the paper tray is routed to the envelope making apparatus, perhaps after the printing of an address on the final sheet, whereby an envelope is created.
20 Machine and associated apparatus for attaching zippers to plastic bags US344866 1994-11-25 US5529659A 1996-06-25 William D. Ellsworth; David Z. Dike; David I. Laber
The two separable elements of a conventional plastic zipper are advanced through a zipper guide slot from the inlet to the outlet end of a machine, simultaneously with two sections of a plastic film or web, one section of which overlies one of the zipper elements, and the other section of which overlies the other zipper element. Intermittently two jaws are advanced toward the web sections to squeeze them against opposite sides of the zipper, at which time a pair of registering hot bars that are resiliently mounted on the jaws adjacent the inlet end of the machine fuse each web section to a different one of the two zipper elements. At the same time, a pair of cold bars carried by the jaws adjacent the outlet end of the machine engage and cool portions of web sections which were previously fused to the two zipper elements. Idler rolls inclined to the zipper guide slot retain the folded web tautly over opposite sides of the zipper guide slot. One side of the guide slot is formed by an elongate metal plate having an elongate stiffening bar secured to one face thereof, and having secured in spaced openings therein a plurality of aluminum plugs which prevent undue distortion of the plate in response to extreme temperature changes.
