An insert made of an ultra-high-pressure sintered compact and including no base metal or support layer is brazed to a tool body under vacuum by use of a Ti-containing activated silver brazing filler metal. This method permits the insert to be securely fixed to the tool body without fear of the insert coming off the tool body even if the tool is a helical one. Because no base metal layer is needed, the manufacturing yield, efficiency and productivity are improved.

PURPOSE: To manufacture a high-performance, high processing accuracy and long life rotational cutting tool at a low cost which is capable of brazing on the tool body a bed plate less helical chip composed of a superhigh pressure sintered body and having its cutting edge composed of a large helix angular superhigh pressure sintered body helical chip. CONSTITUTION: Adherence of a superhigh pressure sintered body chip 1 not containing a bed plate to a tool body 2 is accomplished by a method of brazing in a vacuum, using a Ti inclusion active silver solder material. This method allows the chip 1 to solidly adhere to the tool body 2 through an adhesive layer 3 of the Ti inclusion active silver solder material and chip is never removed even if it is a helical chip. Since the bed plate is dispensable, improvement of chip manufacturing yield rate and manufacturing efficiency, reduction of tool machining cost, improvement of productivity, and the like can be realized.
