The present invention relates to a forging die including on one face, a half-imprint of a part to be forged such as a turbine engine blade. The die is characterized by the fact that it includes on said face, a means forming a marking along two directions relatively to which the position of said imprint is defined, said means consisting of two pads protruding relatively to said face and each including two notches defining said two directions. This means preferably consists of two pads machined on the die at the same time as the imprint, and each including two notches in the form of a cross. The invention thus allows visual checking of the positioning of the imprints and of the dies on the platens of the press.
8 Apparatus for a thermodynamic material testing system that produces very large strains in crystalline metallic specimens and accompanying methods for use therein US09543021 2000-04-04 US06422090B1 2002-07-23 Hugo S. Ferguson
Thermodynamic material testing apparatus and a method for use therein which are capable of controllably inducing very large strains in crystalline metallic specimens. The apparatus prevents longitudinal flow elongation, that otherwise results in conventional testing systems when a specimen is compressively deformed, from occurring but permits sideways material flow outwards from a specimen work zone. The specimen is rotated between successive deformations through a predefined angle, e.g., 90 degrees, in order to present strained specimen material to opposing anvil faces for a next successive compressive deformation. Rotating the specimen between hits and hence compressing previously strained material permits the same work zone material to be deformed many times with very high strains induced therein.

A METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETECTING THE PRESENCE OF A RELATIVELY SMALL HOLE IN A WORKPIECE, SUCH AS A BULLET CASING, BY PASSING A SLENDER DETECT PIN THROUGH THE HOLE, IF THE HOLE IS OBSTRUCTED OR NON-EXISTENT, THE PINS ABUTS THE WORKPIECE WHICH TERMINATES, PREMATURELY, ADVANCEMENT OF THE PIN. A SENSING DEVICE IS PROVIDED AND IS RESPONSIVE TO PREMATURE TERMINATION OF THE PIN ADVANCEMENT TO CONTROL A MACHINE PERFORMING VARIOUS OPERATIONS ON THE MEMBER. ABSENCE OF THE HOLE IN THE MEMBER IS EMPLOYED TO STOP THE MACHINE AND ENABLES THE DEFECTIVE WORKPIECE TO BE REMOVED. ADDITIONALLY, THE DEVICE INCLUDES A SAFETY FEATURE BY WHICH, IN THE EVENT THAT THE SLENDER, FRAGILE PIN BREAKS, THE BREAKAGE WILL BE SENSED ALSO TO STOP THE MACHINE. THIS ENABLES THE BROKEN PIN TO BE REPLACED AND INSURES THAT THE DAMAGED PIN WILL NOT PERMIT ANY DEFECTIVE WORKPIECE HAVING NO HOLE TO PASS THROUGH THE DETECTING STATION TO SUBSEQUENT OPERATING STATIONS IN THE MACHINE.

PURPOSE: To obtain high dimensional stability by measuring a distance between a guide shoe and a container holder or a movable cross head and moreover displaying it. CONSTITUTION: Starting positions of a container holder 13 and a movable cross head 14 to a lower side guide 10 and the deformation of a starting position owing to wear in e.g. a guide shoe are displayed by a measuring sensor. A measured value displayer which is provided in a control stand of an extruding press is assigned, and a displayed measured value is fed to a control computer as an input value at the time of controlling an adjusting member. Thus, high dimensional stability is obtained and an operation without any failure is executed. COPYRIGHT: (C)1990,JPO

20 Tooling and a method for hot forging pieces of sheet metal US13347108 2012-01-10 US08732920B2 2014-05-27 Gilbert Michel Marin Leconte; Jean-Michel Patrick Maurice Franchet; Gilles Charles Casimir Klein; Dominique Magnaudeix
The invention provides tooling and a method for hot forging pieces of sheet metal that are to form metal reinforcement mounted on the leading or trailing edge of a turbine engine blade, by means of bottom and top matrices each presenting a twisted elongate surface for use in shaping an initially plane piece of sheet metal, the shaping surface of the bottom matrix presenting a high portion, a low portion, and two end zones. The bottom matrix includes studs for positioning and guiding the piece, the studs being situated at the periphery of the corresponding shaping surface.
