Placing the key in the "intermediate" position (510a) corresponds to a user presentation mode whereby the display (508) shows a group of possible data entry options. Placing the key in the "down" position (510c) corresponds to a selection mode whereby the display (508) shows that a tentative data entry has been accepted by the user.
