A keyboard (10) (e.g. for a calculator) is described including a base member having a plurality of channels (14) or a chamber, circuitry defining a plurality of switches (17) in a pattern, and optionally a plurality of domes (24) in registry with the switch sites. When a dome is depressed or deflected downwardly, the air under the dome passes into a channel or a chamber where it is distributed away from the switch site. A vent aperture (14B) communicating between the channel or chamber and the atmosphere may also be included. Membrane switches can also be used in such a keyboard.

9 A membrane switch assembly for cathode ray tubes and mounting thereof EP83307522 1983-12-09 EP0113211A3 1986-05-21 Hilhorst, Jacques Jacobus; Stillie, Donald Gray

A transparent membrane switch assembly (10) and mounting means (118) for mounting the assembly (10) to a cathode ray tube (CRT) (68) are disclosed. The assembly (10, 10') is comprised of two layers (12, 16) of transparent film having spaced-apart parallel double fineline conductors (20) deposited on the internal surfaces (14, 18) of both layers (12, 16). The mounting means (118) comprise extension (114) protruding from the perimeter (116) of at least one of the layers of film, and a patch of a coupled fastening assembly (120) attached to each extension (114). Each fastening assembly comprises two separable parts, an outer surface (124) of one part being attachable to a side surface of a CRT when the switch assembly is registered with the CRT face.

PURPOSE: To improve a venting method of a keyboard by letting air in a dome move into a channel when the dome is pressed. CONSTITUTION: When a dome is pushed down by finger pressure, a conductive layer 22 on the back side of the dome makes contact with a switch area of fingers 17 and 17A to be coupled together on a printed circuit. At the same time, air present under the dome is let pass through an opening 14A to enter a cannel 14, and hence the air can be dispersed through a channel system. Then a spacer seat 18 is provided to increase a travelling distance when the dome is crushed. This creates a good 'feeling' in n user who operates a key. COPYRIGHT: (C)1989,JPO

An electrical touch switch having a printed circuit baseboard with two circuit patterns electrically isolated and spaced a predetermined distance from one another has a contactor having a resiliently flexible substrate with a plurality of small contactor dots positioned randomly with respect to the circuit patterns, each contactor dot is sufficiently large to span across the spacing between the circuit patterns and depression of any one of these dots against the circuit patterns will provide continuity between the circuit patterns; the contactor substrate also has embedded structural fibers which span across the contactor dots.

There is disclosed an improved switch panel (SP), e.g. for use in automotive vehicles or electronic/electrical apparatus such as white goods or keypads. Modern switch panels, particularly in cars/automobiles, are provided with an increasing number of electronic controls and equipment. A problem has therefore arisen in that a driver/passenger/user can easily become confused when presented with an array of control switches. The invention therefore provides a switch panel (SP) having a panel member (P) and at least one switch member (S), wherein the panel member (P) has a first appearance when front lit, and at least one second appearance when at least a portion thereof is back lit. The back lighting is provided by illumination means controlled by the at least one switch member (S). The at least one switch member (S) is provided on a reverse (rear) side (105) of the panel member (P) and is controlled by a user from an obverse (front) side (100) of the panel member (P).
