41 Electromagnetic contactor US220035 1988-07-13 US4899120A 1990-02-06 Shigeaki Ohtake; Kuniyuki Kogawa; Takato Hirota
An electromagnetic contactor includes an arc-extinction cover that prevents an electric arc generated during the disconnection of a fixed contact and a movable contact for bridging adjacent fixed contacts. A removable terminal cover serves to cover terminal screws attached to the fixed contacts. The arc-extinction cover and the terminal cover are separate from the contactor body and are attachable and detachable.
42 Molded case circuit breaker with removable arc chutes and disengageable transmission system between the operating mechanism and the poles US919434 1986-10-16 US4764650A 1988-08-16 Marc Bur; Jean-Pierre Nebon
A sub-assembly comprising a contact finger support cage and a connection pad of each pole is securedly united to an intermediate insulating partition of the case by a bracket and screw fixing device. The cage is pivotally mounted on a spindle positioned in bearings of the pad, and is connected to a switching bar by a mechanical link cooperating with a disengageable coupling, capable of breaking the linking system with the bar at the level of each pole. One side wall of the insulating case includes an opening communicating with the compartment housing the separable contacts of each pole. The arc chute is fixedly secured to an insulating support capable of being moved in translation in the longitudinal direction of the pole to ensure either blanking-off of the opening in the inserted position of the arc chute inside the compartment, or removal of the arc chute via said opening allowing the condition of the contacts of each pole to be checked visually, without removing the main fixing screws of the case.
43 Auxiliary interlock switch with interchangeable and reversible chisel-shaped contacts and spring biasing mechanism US615688 1975-09-22 US4006322A 1977-02-01 Paul M. Gallatin; Edward A. Halbach
An auxiliary interlock switch for a DC contactor has a reciprocable one-piece insulating contact carrier and plural bridging contacts interchangeably mounted thereon in alternative positions to provide different desired arrangements of normally open and normally closed contact sets with the stationary contact posts. The contact carrier has a return spring compressed within a spring-receiving cavity and elongated abutment-receiving apertures registering with opposite ends of said cavity through which an abutment member, that is releasably assembled to the contact carrier, may interchangeably freely extend to permit relative movement therebetween and against which one end of the return spring reacts to resiliently bias the contact carrier against reciprocation in one direction. The bridging contacts may be easily removed in the field and reassembled in desired contact configuration and are of resilient metal with bifurcated ends having "chisel" surfaces which provide high unit area contact pressure and plural points of engagement with each stationary contact post to thereby increase electrical reliability.

The contact fingers (49) of electrical switching apparatus (1) have radial convex surfaces (107) centered on the pivot pins (51) which seat on concave surfaces (109) in the molded contact carrier (47) to transmit bending loads on the pin (51) into the carrier (47). A seal member (93) which snaps onto the end of the pivot pin (51) has fins (99) which extend between the contact fingers (49) to block flow of arcing gases through the carrier (47). For lower current ratings, some of the contact fingers (49) are replaced by annular spacers (119) which also transmit bending moments into the carrier (47) and restrict gas flow. A stop ledge (77) on the carrier (47) against which the contact springs (79) bias the contact fingers (49) has a recess (83) which allows the center fingers (49c) to project farther toward the stationary contacts (39, 57) so that the arc toes (55) on these fingers (49c) are the last to separate on opening and the arc is concentrated on them. The drive pin (129) connecting the carrier (47) to the operating mechanism has flats (137) which key it for engagement in a slot (135) in the carrier (47) for installation and removal only with the carrier pivots (73) lifted out of their bearing pockets (113) by removal of the rear casing (7).

A contact guide member (147) extends transversely to the contact fingers (49) on the contact carrier (47) of electrical switching apparatus (1) and has spaced openings (149) through which the contact fingers (49) extend and are held in spaced relation. The contact finger guide member (147) is positioned to isolate the arc toes (55) adjacent the free ends (53) of the contact fingers (49) from the main contacts (41) and the contact springs (79) in order to protect the latter items from the arc gases and debris generated during arcing. The openings (149) in the contact finger guide member (147) are elongated to permit differentially pivoting of the contact fingers (49), but not axial movement. The contact finger guide member (147) slides in a pocket (151) molded in the end face (153) of the contact carrier (47) and is captured by and moves with the contact fingers (49).
