71 SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR TEACHING PRE-KEYBOARDING AND KEYBOARDING US16106313 2018-08-21 US20180357919A1 2018-12-13 Janice Z. OLSEN; Emily KNAPTON; Eric OLSEN; Robert WALNOCK; Hank ISAAC; Ralph SKLAREW
The present invention is directed to systems and related methods of teaching pre-keyboarding and keyboarding on a QWERTY-style keyboard wherein a color-coded row-based metaphorical and visual cuing system is used in a curriculum to make foundational keyboarding skills easy-to-teach and easy-to-learn, including: unilateral hand/finger skills, Home Row hand/finger positions, relational position of symbol location, and the essential keystroke spectrum of Home Row positioning-based finger movements of the left and right hand. The invention provides a dynamic virtual keyboard with colored rows which hexfurcates the QWERTY layout into left- and right-handed row sections, independently toggling the visibility of each in a developmental order to teach keyboarding skills in incremental steps rather than all at once. The invention further provides a dynamic cursor that uses visual indicators that mirror the visual cuing system to reinforce instruction with the dynamic virtual keyboard and aid keyboarding accuracy.
72 OPTICAL INDICATION FOR KEYBOARD INPUT SUGGESTION US15605883 2017-05-25 US20180341336A1 2018-11-29 Trevor H. NORRBOM
A computing device is provided, including a keyboard including a plurality of keys. One or more keys may be equipped with a lighting mechanism configured to display an optical indication. The computing device may further include at least one secondary input device and a processor. The processor may detect a secondary input received from the at least one secondary input device, and may determine that the secondary input corresponds to an input function of an application program set to a tutorial mode of operation. The processor may determine that a pre-defined keyboard input of at least one key of the one or more keys also corresponds to the input function. The processor may convey an output to the keyboard including instructions for the at least one key to display the optical indication. The at least one key of the keyboard, upon receiving the output, may display the optical indication.
73 MODIFIED KEYBOARD WITH INSERTABLE KEYS AND AN INSTRUCTIONAL METHOD FOR TEACHING TOUCH-TYPING USING SAME US13451853 2012-04-20 US20120295236A1 2012-11-22 Susan Ellyn Miller
This invention provides a methodology for teaching touch-typing using a keyless keyboard whose keys are inserted one by one as instruction progresses. A beginner keyboard only contains the home keys (A S D F J K L;) or the letters (F and J) used by the pointer fingers, making it easier for the user's hands to find the keys correctly without having to look down at the letters. As each new letter is introduced, it is added to the keyboard. The letter key being taught is easier to find since there are no other keys in the vicinity for the user's fingers to go. This makes touch-typing easier because the only keys available are those that have been taught. The user's fingers will naturally go to those keys because there are no other keys on the keyboard.
74 Computer keyboard overlay US11878631 2007-07-25 US07967189B2 2011-06-28 Andrew Ackloo
In one embodiment, the invention provides a keyboard overlay adapted to indicate which one of a plurality of menu commands provided by a particular software application is invoked when an alphanumeric key is pressed together with a modifier key on a computer keyboard. In this embodiment, the keyboard overlay has a portion overlaying the modifier key and displaying a predetermined color thereby associating the color with the modifier key. The keyboard overlay has a portion overlaying the alphanumeric key and displaying the predetermined color together with closely associated indicia identifying the menu command. More complex arrangements are described that indicate keyboard equivalents that involve pressing an alphanumeric key together with more than one modifier key.
75 Typing Tutoring System and Method for Indicating Finger Placement on a Keyboard US12303274 2007-06-06 US20090198840A1 2009-08-06 Joseph T. Marshall
A keyboard used for typing tutoring comprises a plurality of keys, in which each key comprises first and second actuators. The first actuator is arranged to generate a keystroke signal when the key is pressed by a first prescribed amount to record a normal keystroke on a computer with which the keyboard is associated. The second actuator is arranged to generate a contact signal when the key is contacted by a user and pressed by a second prescribed amount which is less than the first prescribed amount. An indicator responsive to the contact signals generated by the second actuators of the keys indicates to the user which key has been contacted. The indicator is operable independently of a monitor of the computer which displays the normal keystrokes.

A finger detector is worn on a finger of a player. When a key on a keyboard is pressed down, a pressure sensor of the finger detector sends a pressure detection signal to a PC main body, and the finger used to press down the key is detected based on the signal. When it is determined that an improper finger is used to press down the key, a beep sound is generated from a speaker.
78 Computer keyboard US10583756 2005-01-06 US20070147932A1 2007-06-28 Susan Giles
A computer keyboard that includes features which assist a child in learning how to type. The keys have different colors based upon the function of the keys. The number keys are physically separated from the letter keys by a gap to prevent accidental contact with the number keys while typing words. The keyboard includes a mechanism which disables the normal repeat function. This mechanism prevents the repeated typing of a letter or number regardless of how long the key is pressed.
79 Typing-game machine and game system US11345663 2006-02-02 US20060183093A1 2006-08-17 Junichi Kogo
A typing-game machine has a display unit for displaying a character string, a sound output unit for outputting a sound, an input unit having keys respectively associated with characters, a judgment unit, a game control unit, and a presentation-effect limitation unit. The judgment unit judges whether a character string inputted agrees with a character string displayed or not. The presentation-effect limitation unit at least partly limits, based on a judgment result, a display made through the display unit and/or an output made through the sound output unit. The game control unit controls a game based on a first game mode in which the presentation-effect limitation unit does not work or a second game mode in which the presentation-effect limitation unit works. For a predetermined period of time after a start of a game, the game is controlled based on the first game mode irrespective of the judgment result.
