A casing for use in a cartridge for a firearm comprises a sleeve and attached base. The sleeve has cylindrical portion with a mouth for holding a bullet and an opposing bulkhead from which extends a nipple. At the terminal end of the nipple is a lip that radially decreases in thickness and has curved surface portions; the lip forms a first seal region within a passageway that runs through the base. Preferably a second seal zone around the nipple near the bulkhead. A bulkhead comprises a circumferential wave or ridge that creates a hollow on the surface facing the base. A sleeve is preferably made of austenitic stainless steel that has differential hardness and magnetic properties along the sleeve length; and the base has a hardness less than any portion of the sleeve.

The invention relates to a cartridge with a drive system (1) and a projectile which is connected to the drive system (1), wherein the drive system (1) comprises a propellant case (3) which is filled with a propellant (2) and has a case bottom (4) which contains a substantially axially extending case bottom opening (5) with a preferably T-shaped edge contour, and wherein the case bottom opening (5) is closed by a plug (6) which is of T-shaped configuration, receives an ignition cap (9) and is held in said position by a safety fuse ring (13) of a rupture disc. In order to make it possible that the cartridge can be assembled in a simple way and, in the case of firing, damage of the safety fuse ring (13) is reliably avoided, the invention proposes to arrange the safety fuse ring (13) between the front side (10) of the head part (7) of the plug (6) and the rear side (11) of an adjoining inner-side projection (12) of the case bottom (4), with the result that the propellant chamber is delimited by the front surface of the plug neck (8). Moreover, the inner edge (19) of the safety fuse ring (13) engages in a positively locking and/or non-positive manner into an outer groove-shaped recess (15) of the plug (6), and the outer edge (20) of the safety fuse ring (13) engages in a positively locking and/or non-positive manner into an inner groove-shaped recess (16) of the case bottom (4).
