181 Method and apparatus for simulating the effects of precision-guided munitions EP97112693.3 1997-07-24 EP0825409A3 1999-12-22 Fitzgerald, Mark Richard; Miller, Joseph Richard; McLennan, Clyde Jack

A forward observation officer (21) initiates a call for fire (33) on a particular target (20). The call for fire is received by a control center (30) which generates a precision guided munitions simulation message which is transmitted to all potential targets via a data link (31). The forward observation officer (21) then illuminates the target (20) with a laser designator simulator (22). Laser detectors (23) then determine that the target (20) has been illuminated. Processor arrangement (34) then determines that the target (20) was the correct one that was selected by the forward observation officer (21) and that the location of the precision guided munitions (29) is at the same location of the target (20). Processor arrangement (34) then indicates that the target (20) has been hit or missed.

182 Verfahren zur Gefechtsausbildung in gepanzerten Landfahrzeugen EP99106737.2 1999-04-03 EP0947797A2 1999-10-06 Schmidt, Dirk, Dr.; Hughes, Christopher P.

184 Training barrel with projectile feed ramp for automatic firearms EP98201674.3 1998-05-20 EP0886120A1 1998-12-23 Dionne, Sylvain

A training barrel for conversion of a firearm from lock-breech blow-back operation to non-locked-breech operation has an insert which provides a guide ramp for chambering rounds during the reload cycle. the guide ramp compensates for the absence of rearward displacement of the barrel when the firearm is converted to a training configuration.

185 A force generation system for simulating a rocket launcher EP96307383 1996-10-10 EP0768506A3 1998-09-30 HALL BART; GRODSKI JULIUS J
A system for exerting a force, for instance a vertical upward lifting force of a predetermined tension vs. time waveform on a suspended object is useful in training the operators of shoulder-supported rocket launchers. The system includes an actuator for generating a required tensile force, a non-stretchable line or cable for connecting the object to the actuator and an overhead guide supported on an overhead support structure. The cable passes over the guide means defining a portion of the cable directly supporting the object. The position of the guide is controlled, in a response to a deviation from verticality of the portion of the cable with suspended object, before the activation of the actuator so that the verticality of the object lifting force is maintained. In operation, a predetermined force is exerted on the object regardless of whether the object moves as a result of the force.

The chain gun simulator provides a high-fidelity simulation of the electrical control system signals for any weapon platform using a variety of chain gun types. The simulator device is stand-alone, requiring no external equipment, and replicates the electrical states, levels, and timing of the real guns such that the weapon platform's fire control interface can function normally without the need for a real gun and live ammunition. In addition, the simulator provides user control for selecting gun type and mode, and provides visual indication of modes, feed selection, and simulated weapon bolt position. There may also be an audible indication every time the simulator has advanced through the normal shutdown portion of the gun cycle.
