Methods and apparatus for orthodontic treatment planning that involve determining an initial position of an orthodontic structure, determining an altered position, and generating response surface data using a mathematical relationship between the positions. The mathematical relationship may be defined by a number of parameters useful for determining one or more of the stress, strain, force, and moment associated with movement of the orthodontic structure. The mathematical relationship between the initial position and the altered position may be defined using a finite element analysis, empirically determined, or using other computational methodologies such as a finite difference methodology. The mathematical relationship may also be defined using an analytical methodology, such as elasticity and/or plasticity methodologies. Response surface data may be generated as a teaching aid, treatment planning aid, table, or other useful form, which may be useful, for example, for designing an orthodontic appliance, verifying an orthodontic prescription, and/or planning the prescription.

- on introduit dans les gorges (10) des attaches (1) un premier arc orthodontique (8) à but médical, devant rester en bouche;

- on place en surépaisseur, à la suite du premier arc orthodontique thérapeutique (8), un second arc orthodontique provisoire (14);

187 ORTHODONTIC BRACKET SYSTEM EP05768214.8 2005-07-18 EP1773236A2 2007-04-18 MAIJER, Rolf; SCHNAITTER, Dwight; FILLIPP, Steven
A novel orthodontic bracket system comprised of orthodontic appliances, such as brackets or buccal tubes, with a vertical instead of conventional horizontal slot orientation. The occlusal-gingival slot orientation minimizes the risk of unintentional debonding of the bracket as a result of insertion and removal of the archwire. An archwire retention mechanism designed to guide, retain and/or seat the archwire. The archwire retention mechanism releases the archwire from the archwire slot whenever appropriate force is applied, or manipulation of physical properties of the material are altered by the operator.
188 SHAPE MEMORY SELF-LIGATING ORTHODONTIC BRACKETS EP05764251.4 2005-07-01 EP1768598A2 2007-04-04 Nicholson, James A.
Self-ligating orthodontic brackets which are at least partially formed of materials exhibiting shape memory each of which includes a base from which extends two spaced and opposing pairs of tie wings each pair of which define an archwire guide slot therebetween. Each of the opposing tie wings include portions which are normally spaced to retain an archwire within the archwire guide slot but at least a portion of one of each pair of opposing tie wings is yieldable relative to the other to permit insertion and/or removal of the archwire relative to the archwire guide slot. Portions of the brackets may be coated to reduce friction between the archwire guide slot and the archwire and to promote aesthetics and overall bracket appearance.

190 ADVANCED BUCCAL TUBE EP03714365.8 2003-03-26 EP1487375B1 2006-01-25 SCHULTZ, Charles, J.
A convertible buccal tube is disclosed which includes an arch wire slot covered by a separable cover. The cover includes a mesial or front flared portion to facilitate placing the end of an arch wire therein without undesirably stressing the cover. The cover is further secured to the buccal tube body by integral seams, brazing or other adhesive means that are varied in strength mesially-distally, with about 50% greater force being required to separate the cover at the mesial end thereof. The cover and increased strength seams provide that the cover is not prematurely separated from the buccal tube, particularly during installation of an arch wire.
191 Anordnung zur Behebung von Zahnfehlstellungen EP02719838.1 2002-02-14 EP1359860B1 2005-12-28 Heiser, Wolfgang, Dr. med.; Schendell-Gröling, Claus, Dipl.-Ing.
The invention relates to a lingual bracket for orthodontic treatment in the incisor and canine region. The bracket has a slot that is aligned in parallel with the bracket base plate, said slot being aligned in such a way that the slot opening points towards the occlusal plane. The depth of the slot is preferably smaller than its width. Said slot acts as an organ for securing an aligning wire, being preferably covered by a closing spring, which is held in a stable manner on the bracket structure in the opening and closing positions. An aligning wire that lies in the slot is pressed against the base of said slot by the closing spring and also has a direct action on at least one lateral slot wall, generating the forces required on the bracket for correcting the tooth. The use of securing catches for the closing spring is no longer necessary, thus reducing the height of the bracket.
192 ORTHODONTIC BRACE WITH SELF-RELEASING APPLIANCES EP04709408.1 2004-02-09 EP1605860A1 2005-12-21 LAI, Ming-Lai,3M
An orthodontic brace includes a set of appliances that are connected to respective teeth of the patient. At least some of the appliances include a latch that is operable to release an archwire from the appliance whenever the force exerted by the archwire exceeds a certain value. This value is higher for appliances connected to certain teeth than the value associated with appliances connected to other teeth, in accordance with the particular malocclusion encountered. The brace is constructed to ensure that the goals of the treatment program are carried out in an efficient manner while reducing the likelihood of inadvertent release of the archwire during the course of treatment.

197 SELF-LIGATING ORTHODONTIC BRACKETS INCLUDING A LIGATION COVER BIASED TOWARD AN OPEN OR CLOSED POSITION EP01982640.3 2001-09-11 EP1359859A1 2003-11-12 Abels, Norbert; Backes, Claus H.
Self ligating orthodontic brackets include a bracket base, a ligation cover which interacts with the bracket base in order to provide ligation of at least one arch wire associated with the bracket base, and spring action that biases the ligation to remain in an open or closed position relative to the base. Such spring action may be provided by an orthodontic barcket (200) that includes a bracket base (202), a flexible ligation cover (204) hingedly attached to the base (202) by a pin hinge (206), and a spring member (208) integrally connected to the cover (204) by an integral film hinge (210) at one end and hingedly attached to the base (202) by a conventional pin hinge (212) at an opposite end. The spring member (208) is curved and attached to the cover (204) and base (204) in a manner so that it reaches maximum elongation somewhere between the closed and open position of the cover (204). Thus, the spring member (208) contracts as the cover (204) approaches both the open and closed positions, thereby selectively biasing the cover toward whichever of these two positions results in further contraction of the spring member (208).
