7 Low-splash reducing implement for dental applications US13986557 2013-05-14 US20140342308A1 2014-11-20 Arthur Kitchings Weathers; T. Wilfred Pye
The invention is a low-splash dental fluid distribution implement with the ability to evenly wear down tooth decay, diseased tissue, or undesired dentin in oral applications with live patients. The directed multi-beams of pressurized fluid are a combined plurality of individual beams paired in such a manner that the reflected fluid bursts are inwardly directed against each other. This canceling effect prevents damage to the oral tissues of the patient's mouth by curtailing outward bound bursts of fluid arising from the initial directed impact. Also, the outer edges of the strike zone receive a comparable force as that which hits the center.

9 Apparatus and method for reducing or eliminating the pain associated with an injection US11472146 2006-06-21 US20080086159A1 2008-04-10 Michael D. Zweifler
An apparatus and method for facilitating painless or near-painless injections is described. The apparatus includes a guide that provides vibration around the site of the injection, thereby reducing the sensation of pain according to the pain gate theory. The guide also provides a reservoir to hold a bolus of anesthesia gel through the injection needle passes. The vibrational energy of the guide is also transferred to the needle itself, further reducing any pain associated with the injection. The guide may be sized to receive a needle recapping sheath, adding a safety enhancement feature to the device.

A medical device is disclosed, which employs a form of electric desensitization in connection with the use of pain-producing medical tools. The device is particularly useful in connection with dental drilling operations and includes, in the preferred embodiment, a coil mounted within a dental handpiece and a rotating permanent magnet mounted so that its magnetic flux overlaps the coil windings. Rotation of the magnet includes an electric current in the coil which flows through the drill and into the tooth to desensitize the nervous system of the tooth upon contact. An improved turbine bearing assembly is included, having an elongated substantially tubular hub interconnectable with an elongate collet to form a rotary chuck, preferably adapted to be used in a dental drilling handpiece. The invention also includes apparatus for manipulating this rotatable chuck.
