PURPOSE: Benzoate catabolic enzyme gene cluster isolated from Streptomyces setonii, and the amino acid sequences and nucleotide sequences thereof are provided, thereby effectively decomposing benzoate and catechol into water and dioxide carbon. CONSTITUTION: A benzoate dioxygenase beta subunit isolated from Streptomyces setonii (ATCC 39116) has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 4. A gene encoding the benzoate dioxygenase beta subunit has the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 3. A benzoate dioxygenase alpha subunit isolated from Streptomyces setonii (ATCC 39116) has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 6. A gene encoding the benzoate dioxygenase alpha subunit has the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 5. A benzoate dioxygenase comprises the beta subunit of SEQ ID NO: 4 and the alpha subunit of SEQ ID NO: 6. A gene encoding the benzoate dioxygenase has the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 9. A catechol 1,2-dioxygenase isolated from Streptomyces setonii (ATCC 39116) has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 12. A gene encoding the catechol 1,2-dioxygenase has the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 11. A muconolactone isomerase isolated from Streptomyces setonii (ATCC 39116) has the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 14. A gene encoding the muconolactone isomerase has the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO: 13.
