The invention provides polyurethane and polyisocyanurate foams and methods for the preparation thereof. More particularly, the invention relates to open-celled, polyurethane and polyisocyanurate foams and methods for their preparation. The foams are characterized by a fine uniform cell structure and little or no foam collapse. The foams are produced with a polyol premix composition which comprises a combination of a hydrohaloolefin blowing agent, a polyol, a surfactant component which comprises a non-silicone surfactant and is substantially absent of a silicone surfactant, and a tertiary amine catalyst.

PURPOSE: To obtain a modified polyiscyanurate foam excellent in flexibility, compressive strength, etc., by reacting an organic polyisocyanate, a polyol, water and a specified aromatic compound in the presence of specified catalysts. CONSTITUTION: This foam is obtained by reacting an organic polyisocyanate (e.g. 2,4-tolylene diisocyantate), a polyol, water, and an aromatic compound represented by formula I or II (wherein R1 and R2 are each H or CH3 ; R3 and R4 are each a group of formula III or IV; n is 1 to 4; and R5 and R6 are each 1-4C alkyl) in the presence of a catalyst for the trimerization of an isocyanate and a carbodiimidation catalyst comprising a phospholene oxide represented by formula V or VI [wherein R7 is (un)substituted alkyl, phenyl, naphthyl or benzyl]. The obtained foam is suitable for a heat insulating panel, such as a sandwich panel.
