The receiver includes a frequency-locked loop comprising a VCO, a mixer circuit connected to an aerial input, an IF portion having an IF filter, an FM detector and a loop filter arrangement. A loop amplifier adjusts the transfer characteristic of the loop. The loop amplifier is connected to a control input of the VCO for feedback of the modulation signal of the received FM signal. The loop filter arrangement includes a low pass filter which selects the audio frequency stereo sum signal from a parallel with the low pass filter and selects the stereo difference stereophonic FM-mutiplex signal and a band filter which is in signal which is amplitude modulated on a suppressed stereo subcarrier from a stereophonic FM-multiplex signal.

The receiver for stereo AM transmissions, can receive five types of transmission. These types are the AM/FM system, the compatible quadrature system, the variable compatible phas multiplex system, the independent side band system and the phase modulation system. These use widely different frequency ranges, and the pilot signals are all detected by a detection stage connected to a logic circuit from which all five signals can be obtained. The frequency dependent recognition circuit forming the pilot signal detector produces signals from three frequency bands with two bands above and below a first band.

The system includes a modulator for providing a composite modulated signal having a subsonically varying quiescent carrier component. An adaptor separates the composite modulated signal into AF and RF components for application to AF and RF inputs of an AM transmitter. The adaptor includes a device responsive to the composite modulated signal. A device subsonically adjusts the gain of the envelope signal so that its DC component remains fixed. This reduces harmonic distortion resulting from AC coupling of the envelope signal into the AF input of the AM transmitter.

A radio receiver has a demodulation circuit protected against the confusion caused by the change in frequency or changing phase resulting from the furning or change in turning of the mid frequency signal. The receiver has frequency sensitive networks to extract the pilot signal from a received broadcast signal when it is stereophonic AM. There is a detector circuit, which senses interference signals located near to the frequency range of the pilot signal, which operates when the tuners are operated. It prevents incorrect reaction of the reception mode selectors. The detected interference signals activate the prevention network.
