The received signals are filtered to eliminate all signals at frequencies apart from the predetermined frequency. The filter output is coupled to a latching circuit which provides one output signal when a given number of cycles having a given amplitude have been detected in sequence, and a second output signal when a given number of cycles is lacking or of insufficient amplitude. If the filter output includes one or more cycles of the given amplitude followed by a longer series of cycles having less than the given amplitude, a timer is enabled to that any subsequent pulse of the given amplitude will block any detect signal for a predetermined period.

The circuit uses distortion correcting signal and includes a first differential amplifier comprising two transistors. The bases of the transistors are supplied with the received AM stereo signal. The receiver receives a signal incorporating both amplitude and angular carrier modulation. It incorporates two demodulators, the first proving an output representing the amplitude modulation signal but dependent on the carrier signal level and the second providing the angular modulation signal which incorporates attenuation correction, to allow the first demodulated signal to be corrected for eliminating the dependance on the carrier signal level. A processing circuit for the first demodulated signal provides a modification signal used for controlling the second demodulator in conjunction with the modulated carrier signal to obtain the second modulation signal.

The detector utilizes a received AM signal that has been translated into the I.F band and applies it to two product demodualtors. The carrier of the 1.F signal is isolated, e.g. by a phase-locked loop, and a corresponding quadrature carrier, i.e. the isolated carrier phase-shifted by 90 degrees, is generated. The carrier is applied to one of the demodulators and the quadrature carrier is applied to the other. The outputs of the demodulators are separatly squared and then added together. The square root of the resulting signal is taken in order to produce the final envelope-representative signal.

In the stereo radio system, tones are modulated on a carrier wave which is also multiplex modulated by stereo related audio signals. Detection of the presence of one of the tones in a received signal provides an indication of the possibility of stereo related modulation components in the received signal. Detection of the presence of both tones in the received signal provides confirmation that stereo related modulation components are in the received signal. In one form, 15HZ and 30HZ phaserelated tones are used. A stereo receiver incorporates 15HZ and 30HZ phase detectors which form interrelated phase-locked 100ps with a common 30Hz reference oscillator.

A radio receiver with AM stereo signal demodulator uses left and right channel sum and difference signals. The design minimises noise burst interference and separation effects between left and right channels. A tuner produces an intermediate frequency and a subsequent detector separates the summed left and right signal plus signal level information. The 'IF' is also fed to circuits which process the left and right difference signals. The signal level information from the sum signal detectors is fed via a control circuit into the difference channel for phase modulation and comparison with the non-modulated signal and multiplication with it.
